Got me a DFP
« on: February 01, 2007, 02:34:27 am »
Well actually ill have it next week, found a bargain and decided to go for it...
I currently have momo force but i wanted bigger degree of turning..
only thing that im conserned (and made me laugh) is that bloody hell!
it dont have proper paddles! those are more like buttons to me...
it will be a pain to get used to something that small after using momos proper paddles :(

Contact adhesive, G-clamp+24 hours
Then forget bout the paddle/buttons and use the shifter as the noble Marcus states!

I use my right paddle thing as a 'shift key' for the second set of button assignments on the wheel, and the left one is mapped to the 'enter key' .. combine that with having the hat switch dual mapped to the arrow keys and yer pitboard woes are over :)

They are a bit crappy, those 'paddles' aren't they?

I think you'll get used to them soon enough, though.  :)  Apart from the crappy paddles, The DFP is pretty good wheel.

 :)

Have you downloaded the Wingman drivers and profiler?

yep i have, I have Logitech Momo Racing which is a very good wheel and has proper paddles too hehe, its just that it has only 240 degrees rotation.. the pedals should be same though, even the connector is same, so ill have spare pedals :)
(id offer my old wheel if it didnt cost billion to ship it)

I know I'm a bit crap at the old driving lark, but I've found that I don't accidently double shift anywhere near as much as I used to when I use the shifter... and it's kind of helps with the 'pretending' bit :0)

you wouldnt double shift with the paddles if they werent that shit hehe..
its a big thing for me... since my driving style means my hands are "alive" quite a lot i need
something big in the back of the wheel to crunch the gears no matter what position the wheel or my hands are...

The G25 has awesome paddles and I was always used to using paddles before I got the G25, now I use the shifter, mainly in sequential mode when racing online, I wont go back to paddles now, I love the sense of immersion that taking your hand off the wheel gives when shifting.. its not so hard to get used to, heck I dont even use a stick shift in my company car since its auto and I still prefer the shifter at the pc.

Give it a try Jarkko, its great really, and wont take you long to get used to it and be just as fast (god forbid)

The sequential shifter on the DFP is horrible, though.

But it is quite a handy place to hang your headphones!

Ive got a Momo black, but its been screwing me about so might look into a used DFP, Byron worried me a bit saying the "shifter is shit" though (thanks mate) i only use stick shift and have my left paddle as the clutch, the right is for my headlights
let me know what you think when youv'e tried it for awhile Jarkko

Hey, Ted...  There's so many buttons on a DFP that you won't need to tie up your paddles.

I have my clutch on the O key (which sits right under my right thumb) and my lights on the 'Up' part of the Hat switch which sits right under my left thumb.

 :)

(The shifter works fine...  it's just flimsy and rubbish)

F*ck that.. use the shifter!  or make that joystickthingy work!  take it apart and put the triggers in a metal box  i think gogs put that one up once, then yer finish-(pun)-ed

I've been using the paddles to shift, and I think they work fine.

I must say though, that I'm not using the 900degree feature.  Since you're planning on using that, and having "free hands" you might be right about the paddles.  Report back when it arrives!

I might try the sequential shift though, and see if I can get used to it as easy as Sandra did....

I always used the paddles and they are ok... meaning that they do work but are far from ideal. The joystick...ehr shifter is about as crappy as the the paddles (I used the shifter for flashing my lights and it worked fine for that )

G25 is obviously much better... very good paddles, but I don't use them much, and a good shifter... well ok, the shifter could be better because it doesn't feel like the real thing but it makes more sense to use them in GT Legends than the paddles  :tut:

lol...to funny.

I have a DFP Jarkko and while I'm nowhere near the calibur racer as you, I think in time you will get used to the paddles just fine. I have found that anything past 300 degrees on the wheel is to much. Of course I'm a crap racer so that might have something to do with it.  :dunno:

i use 520 here with my dfp, i do lose it now and then tho, i find the paddles great until i hit the gravel as i cant work out were gear down is with crossed arms. im gonna experiment with lesser lock and see what happens.

How do you all get your profilers to be so accurate.  I found about 360o is the sweet spot for me, but the closest I can get the slider to is 362o!

was bored !!!

wooden paddles stained and polished

if the spatula is one bit of wood, if you let it get very very wet, you will be able to bend it, ie put a curve in at and it should stay that shape when it drys out, you might need to boil it in a pot on water or if you have an automatic dish washer, open it at the steam drying cycle and then bend the spatula, get a bit of wood and bang a few nails into the wood so the spatula holds it shape.

If i get that G25 working again i'm gonna go for the full 900 and use it like it hasn't been used before!  (pun)

then ill probbly settle for the 357 degrees byron mentioned, hehe.. Cuzz pete.. you can never hurl the wheel fast enough around to take the car outtof a spin m8.. you'd go insane having to do that combined with a dodgy setup... but on the other hand.. sanity is not in your wonderfull vocabulary, so that might be ok anyways then...

I did find some stuff about dismantling it and fixing the tiny bit of play (looseness) that you get dead centre on a DFP.

Are both lights on the wheel on?

Normally it won't work on 900 deg till  you fire up the wingman drivers.  Until you do, only one light will be on on the wheel.

not the same wheel, but run about 180 rotation for single seaters (lots of lock), 200-220 for gtr2 (lock @16-18 degrees) and just started fiddling with 270 on GTL, with Lock @ 28-32 degrees.

Lower rotation makes spin recovery difficult, but i like knife edge car handling, so often put up with it, hence the large number of spins in GTL... but will try 270 this evening, and see how it goes

it is a nice wheel, feels more accurate than black momo... im happy i bought it,
especially cos its like a new wheel, no signs of use and the pedals are way stiffer

It's odd, but as an experiment, I tried the windows control panel> game controllers> Properties> settings method...  and didn't load the profiler.

It worked ok, but it didn't feel quite right somehow.  It seemed like the subtlety had gone, so it felt a bit woolly (like I couldn't feel the point where the rear wheels started to slide - stuff like that).

Normally I plug in the wheel, start the profiler then run the game.  In theory, as long as the drivers are loaded, both methods should work the same.

Dunno, might be just me.  Further experimentation required I think.

well i was doing better with 900 degrees than anything else ive tried :(
it surely is a big change.. experimenting required indeed... i might have to use the old wheel
in SJC race..

440 with lock of 20 seems ok... just gotta get used to it i guess..

Just curious.  It's four months later.  What did you decide on?

I use 440 with GTL, 360 with GTR2, and i change those in rfactor, but usually i never go under 360.. not
even for open wheelers.

(edit the lock completely depend on the car)

interesting, wheel set at 600 in the windows controller advanced thing, don't change it for GTR2 / GTL or any rFactor Mod, i just adjust the in car steering lock until the muscles in my arm relax and i'm working the wheel without thinking about it, if i run too high a steering lock my arm start freezing and sort of lock up, normally start at 10 then work my way up, yes and sometime you come to the first corner and just sail off the track for a burger, once it's close-ish, ie: feeling right, then the rally driving starts and if i can catch most of the slides that will normally do it for me, but i might re-adjust again once my lap times come down a bit and my driving style smoothes out.

but as with most things in GTL/GTR & rFactor everyone does there own thing and most of everyone gets round the track at a fare rate of knots, think this also effects how one persons setup might not work for you or me, but works for them.

Yeah definitely this is one of the things that are very personal.. there is no "right" setting.
