What a bunch of Shite...
Seriously, though, excellent review! I'll just add a few of my own thoughts:
- The thing I like most about the G25: The stiffness of the brake pedal. Really helps me gage my braking force, even if it does sometimes push my office chair away from the desk, doh!
- The thing I like least about the G25: The fact that I had to take the leather boot off the shifter. The boot was bunching up on the right side, and not allowing the stick to go smoothly into the 5-6 gate. Nothing more annoying than ending up in 3rd gear instead of 5th.
I decided to go "whole hog" when I got the G25. I stopped using paddles and stopped using auto-clutch. It's been a big adjustment, but it's definitely a step up in the realism department! I'm even starting to get the hang of pushing in the clutch pedal when I spin, so as not to stall the engine. I'm actually not using the clutch to shift most of the time, only for starting from a dead stop. The only thing I'm still struggling with is downshifting. I still spin out a lot after a downshift, unless I let off the brake momentarily to "blip" the throttle. I think some of the fast guys don't let off the gas while downshifting, or ever,

, but that's a little over the top for my taste. I'm going to try to teach myself to heel-toe, as I'm beginning to see the value of it now.
Overall, the G25 seems like a good investment. Nice sturdy design, in the tradition of the original MOMO, with many improvements in the realism aspect. If you're looking for a more immersive driving experience, it can't be beat for the price.
However, if you're thinking that it will make you a better or faster driver, I think you'll be disappointed. And even though it comes with paddles which you can use instead of the stick, it seems like alot of money to spend for the extra stuff you're not going to use anyway. Maybe the DFP would be a better choice.
Cheers!
