rFactor alpha channels
« on: March 30, 2008, 01:29:33 am »
Has any one got a good step by step alpha channel tutorial? I'm trying to highlight decals etc but can't seem to get them right, any help appreciated.

Are you using Photoshop Monty?

If I'm right, the alpha channel is used for shiny-ness in rFactor.  Dark is dull and light is shiny.  I may have that wrong, though.

So...  if you want make the alpha channel lighter on a particular decal.

  • Make sure that the decal is on it's own layer
  • Hold Cntrl whilst clicking on the decal layer's thumbnail in the Layers palette - this will select just the decal (you should see the selection marquee around it)
  • Hit the Channels tab, and select the alpha channel (probably called 'alpha 1')
  • If there isn't an alpha channel, you can make one by hitting the 'Create new Channel' button at the bottom of the Channels pallette.
  • Now go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast and set the brightness to the level you need.

Hope that helps.  Give me a shout if you need any more info.

You've given me an idea for a new tutorial for RSP - thanks mate!

Ahhh...  The Ctrl, Shift and Alt keys - and the Space bar - are your best friends when using Photoshop.

Go on...  click 'em...  you know you want to!

(Maybe a 'Keyboard Shortcuts' section for RSP?  That's two ideas for the site in this thread!)
