Frustrated

I am trying to paint an ac cobra 873ver

Made one that showed up and game crashed. Thought I got smart:

  • Made new copy of 873 folder from game
  • Made approrpriate folders (ultra/tex)
  • Did the name changes (616)
  • reloading and game still crashes

  I made no changes other than "the names" and removing old named files and importing new named files into the .gtl files.

  I hope I have just made a daft mistake.

Just top fill in time while somebody who knows what they are talking about replies... did you try creating a trace file so you can see which element is causing the crash?

Just in case you aren't sure, edit the properties of your shortcut to append "-trace=1000" ... like I would have "D:\Games\GTL\GTL.exe -trace=1000"
When it crashes look in your 'user\log' folder for the trace.txt file (or whatever it's called.. not sure atm) and see if there's a clue there?

You need the encrypted .car files, then you must edit yours to be unique.
I think you can get them at Gtr4u.de.
Hmm.. what folders? There arent supposed to be any extra folders included except the one for your car.

  I meant my "working folders" I remove them before copying over. Sorry to be confusing. :). I did do the un-ecrypt didn't include in my attachs. Again sorry. Here

I checked each of the files but cant find anything wrong in them  :?:
So there has to be some extra files then me thinks..

I have found, that with EVERY car, especially in GT Legends, you have to start with a NEW!!!! .car file, from the downloads section. Copying a .car file won't allow it to show up, and will cause the elusive CTD.

Check the genstring in the .car file, find an existing ADD ON car, since the default cars are encrypted, find a set of wheels and windows that you like, then open its .car file with notepad, then copy its genstring. Then load up and see what happens....

Had this headache many times while painting..... Let Us know.

Nope i dont think it can be the genstring. The hundreds of GTL cars we have sorted its never been an issue, if you just edit the files properly. (not to mention what it does, it really shouldnt make no difference) Theres absolutely nothing extra in the folder.. all files are edited nicely.. one last shot. One of the texture formats can be wrong possibly.. or are you sure theres no other working folder floating around?

EDIT:Im gonna get the files, make myself the cars folder and test if i get it to work.

EDIT2:Im starting to think the encrypted car file is wrong! im gonna compare it to a working one.

EDIT3:Now im completely puzzled. I made sure the .Car file is from a working car and edited the numbers to go with yours.. still doesnt work.  :jawdrop:

Byron you have done one of these low power Shelbys, did you face similar issues?

  I have been experincing some difficultiy with the geditor not saving the files I have imported and it has repeatly not removed files I did request it to move. I have got to the point where everything I do I save then continue.

  I am doing by memory from the tutorials that were on RSP. Maybe I missed something.

  I think I got some good painting in me and I want to show it.  If I am dummy so be it, but your help means everything...Thank You

Guess who got the issue sorted! :excited:

Heres the problem:

You had edited the number of the cockpit CPIT04 texture in "AC_COBRA_CPIT_TEX.gtl".
You are not supposed to do that. So if the .GTL file dont have the carnumber in front, then you are supposed to leave also the texture names inside unchanged.

Heres the example file, put this in and it will work.. Or just open it to explore what i mean.
It should be clear without too though. :)
