Time for a change
« on: November 13, 2008, 11:53:01 pm »
Well, not including the odd special event, we are now at week 38.  Effectively, AlfaTina has been running for around 10 months, week in, week out, with consistently good fields, which is a pretty amazing run.

For the last few months, my interest in all things sim-racing has, for one reason or another, diminished to the point of disinterest; no matter how hard I try, I simply cannot re-ignite the spark, and fear it may be gone for good.  Consequently, I have also scaled down my involvement with Sim Junkies, and as my racing is limited to sporadic events as the mood takes me, I do not feel I have my finger on the pulse of AlfaTina.

The truth is, as far as events are concerned, I am totally out of ideas for venues and combos, and feel this would be an appropriate juncture to bow out from my role in relation to this series.  Now I know Ted is out of the picture at the moment, and my timing could have been better, but I am sure there are plenty of willing Junkies out there ready to take the tiller, and steer the good ship AlfaTina in a more refreshing direction (eh, Captain Drokk!).  I am sure that whoever takes over will come up with combos good enough to rekindle my enthusiasm.

For the final time, consider yourselves moderated!  :hats off:

eh! what the! who the! how the? eh! ?
Dave Dave Dave! come now. i really appreciate you dropping my name n that but surely you don't wanna drop your management of alfatina, possibly the most successful event junkies has ever run  :jawdrop:
i know ive been verbal lately in some ideas towards cars n tracks but to pull out at this stage seems premature! or is that the norm for you  :innocent:
what i mean is, just because you dont feel the urge to race with us right now you may fancy a bit in the future.
im happy to help you and Ted out with track (and the odd car change  :innocent:) suggestions while your attentions are elsewhere.
but i can in no way take ownership of your twos fine vessel that is the good ship Alfatina.
god bless her and all who sail in her  :salute:

Nice sentiments expressed there, Lee, but I reckon an enthusiast is needed to run any sort of league.  Look at Giz, Pete, Kristof and so on; they are all well enthusiastic about what they do, whereas I have just lost interest in sim-racing.  But I've had a good run at it, what with Ayrton Senna Racing on the Sega Megadrive, to the F1 games on PS1, before graduating to PC titles such as Grand Prix 3, Grand Prix Legends, NR2003 and of course GTR, GTR2 and GT Legends.  But I also have LFS, Race 07 and GTR Evo on the drive, and they can't have been fired up more than 3 times each!

I hear you big Dave. It's been an incredible run and one which you and Teddybollocks should feel rightly proud of.
However, the Friday night pissup has now become our strongest tradition, and must continue.

So who's going to step up and give the two old dogs a break for a bit?
The role of AlfaTina caretaker is open on whilst the Codger Couple take a break :)
It will always be Ted and Dave's event, even while they are hiatus.
No need to worry about setting up servers and such, we'll take care of that.

what with Ayrton Senna Racing on the Sega Megadrive,

Wow, I've never heard of those.  Although I haven't seen a console in a long time (atari 2600).   :hats off:

Anyway, I'm really sad to see one of the founders (or at least people that were here when I got here and have been here since) leave or lose enthusiasm for sim-racing.  Did you also lose interest in other automotive or gas powered things, such as F1, BTCC, FIAGT, Formula Ford, Le Mans, Indy500, Paris-Dakar, MotoGP, Superbikes, drifting, Jaguars, new technology, World Rally, air racing, lorrie racing, GP boats, Motocross, Motards, ice racing, pit babes, off road racing (Baja), hill climb, historics, slot cars, radio control, Tour de France, Nascar, Porsches, Fords, Chevrolets, classics, prototypes, open-wheelers, minis, ladas, sprint cars, winged sprints, bugs, gasoline, diesel, grease, blinker fluid, want ads, local shops, hop-ups, wider tires, fancy wheels, spoilers, air dams, fender flares, pit babes (bares saying again), trophies, wreaths, four wheeling, champagne (what took so long, eh?), Monaco, Monza, Daytona, Brands Hatch, Goodwood, Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Brickyard, Laguna Seca, Magny-Cours, Silverstone, Mosport, Sebring, Riverside, Interlagos, Fuji, Adelaide, Imola, Brooklands, Pike's Peak, Talladega, Long Beach (what took so long?), Mexico City, asphalt, concrete, kerbs, rubber, sex, wings, turbos, axles, air hammers, cockpits, windscreens, mirrors, paint, pits, stands, garages, smells, beers, wines, teams, owners, spokes, handlebars, grips, steering wheels, magazines, wrecks, videos, sounds, results, gloves, shoes, socks (for Ted), helmets, tear-offs, wipers, transports, replays, commentators, pedals, shifters, trees, signs, corners straightaways, tarmac, fences, ARMCO, setups, slip patch, spring rates, anti-roll bars, shocks, flip-ups, aerodynamics, downforce, toe-in, toe-out, attack angle, ride heigth, skid plates, bump stops, passengers, leather, switches, backseat, lights, blinkers, plastic, adverts, billboards, television, fans, driveshafts, transmissions, pistons, rods, valves, gaskets, gears, casings, steel, cast iron, bearings, fiberglass, carbon fiber, glass, heaters, ducts, air conditioning, wrenches, sockets, ratchets, grinders, welders, welding, painting, buffing, waxing, washing, polishing, polished, chromed, brass plating, nickel, lowered, chopped, scalloped, models, wives, girlfriends, hotel rooms, bars, drivers, heros, legends, pace cars, ambulances, injuries, shoes, suits, track days, testing, prototypes, manufacturers, racing, 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, atv's, superchargers, chrome (bears repeating!), pressures, settings, panhard bars, indepentant suspension, de dion tubes, gears, gear reduction, torque, horsepower, rpm, braking, pads, shoes, rotors, induction, combustion, fuel/air mixture, spark, ignition, plugs, pumps, actuators, sensors, lights, halogen, seats, head-rests, seat belts, latches, connectors, recepticles, radios, knobs, levers, insurance, registration, tickets, pink slips, cameras, injectors, alternators, generators, motors, latches, hinges, bits, screws, bolts, studs, nuts, washers, tools, artwork, sculpture, grip, skid pads, drag racing, starting tree, wires, gauges, sand, dirt, chemicals, spares, parts, reactions, seconds, hours, miles, kilometers, speed, finish line?

Fully understand what you're saying, Dave...  You certainly created a monster!  Look forward to seeing what Lee has in store.

The "Tina" will do fine with whomever may take the reigns , this i'm quite sure of, but hearing Dave is on the brink of ending his Sim driving altogether is a total shocker and not so pleasant a way to start MY day i'd have to say. Ebb and flow bro, ebb and flow, it'll come back around, sure do miss racing ya as is.

Wow Dave, that's a bolt from the blue. I do understand your reasons but I hope you don't leave us altogether. Everyone needs a break to recharge the batteries. The added burdon (is that the right word :?:) of organising events for our entertainment is bound to take its toll as well. It can't be easy dreaming up new race combinations every week, and respect to all who provide our calendar of events :salute:

Take a well earned break Dave, but come back to us when you're ready. The place just wouldn't be the same without you :nope:.

We'll look after Alfatina for you.

Also, thanks to the Drokk man for keeping the legacy alive!!   :twit:

As we know, Uncle Peter's rendition of Gloria Gaynor's 'I will Survive' is an SJ legend...  with ne'er a dry seat in the house as he belts out that last chorus.  God only knows what it will be like once he has mounted his forthcoming Rhino!

Buds, Thank you for allowing me to forget my daily crap once a week. While I have only been a regular for the past month or so it has become a weekly highlite, something to look forward to.

When RL cools down,  I think (and hope) your passion will return.

Dave and Ted,

I will respect your decisions of course, I think I understand.
I also think you will be back someday soon and I sure hope so, but you know that.

As for Alfatina events.
No doubt in my mind that DrokK will come up with some great stuff.
Lee, if you need help,
I KNOW we can think up at least 10 good events in one day, and they will not all be including the Alpine....  lol

Caspar.

well, i never saw this coming guys.

it's been a pleasure racing/chatting/teaming up with you Dave and Ted, a real pleasure.

hopefully you won't stay away for too long, and pop on here occasionally to let us know how you are both doing.

TBH i am finding it difficult to get on with any racing at the moment too, i just seem to have lost the enthusiasm slightly. which is why i don't get on so much lately.

but i'm sure it will come back.

good luck in your real life duties/worries guys.

Dave
