Hint?
« on: June 17, 2008, 03:26:00 am »
Say some guy wanted to learn a track layout in advance.  Not to 'practice' per say, but maybe just to be a little less of an off road racer.

Could this be arranged?  You know, a hint as to where we will be racing?

OK, I've applied some logical reasoning, and i think i have a solution for you Marcus.

As far as i can remember, we had issues when we tried to race AlfaTina at Mid Ohio.  Now as you all know, there is a spanking new version of the track by VLM, which is in the downloads, and looks fantastic.  I'm sure many would like to have a run round here, and i reckon that AlfaTina provides the ideal test-bed for new tracks, 'cos if it don't work, we just go somewhere else!

But here's the rub; i have no time to test this tracks suitability, and am looking for volunteers to post some laps and report back on FPS, lap times and the like.  If anyone fancies doing this, then feel free.

(On a slightly serious note, would be nice to know if anyone has problems running the track, as i do not want to exclude anyone on the basis of machine performance... any other reason that i decide at my whim, in the true style of a tyrannical dictator is fine, but not machine performance).

just as a precaution and a way to truly test the track for being suitable for the race in question the server is set with both versions of the track  so it can be tested in the on-line environment thumbs up

I joined the server and did some practice laps and the track is ok. My fps was between 80 and 120, which is more than compared to Nurburgring GP (70-115), so fps is ok.
I didn't found any glitches so far, you just have to be carefull in T1 to not even touch the curbstone in the 'inside' there... which is perhaps even a good thing as this means you certainly can't cut the exit of the pitlane in order to gain a few thents  :tut:
The track is a little different compared to the old MidOhio: some corners are wider, other less/more bumpy, ... I guess probably more realistic, but I'm sure the American SJ's are in a better position to judge that aspect  ;)

My best lap was a 1:40.2 with the Alfa and I'm sure a laptime under 1:40 is possible :salute:

Just checked the gdb file and it contains following line:

  RaceTime = 140

Which will probably cause "next track" in the middle of a race...

as good as they are how can they make such a silly mistake in the files as to restrict the  bloody race lengths they need better testers me thinks people who will run more than  a few laps and give it the OK lol

not really they use a .exe to install their tracks  and a lot will already have it installed

easy way is i alter the file on the server and have the single file available for people who want to get rid of the mismatch message that doesn't cause any problems

will do IF the track is fine to use for league use  :twit:  :)  alfatina races shouldn't be effected with this as it's normally races around the hour long  and timed that get problems  AT is normally 25mins and set in laps  thumbs up

This is an EXCELLENT alfatina track.

Just running local open practice I saw between 70-90FPS on my 2.4 Duo 2/8800GTX/ 3840x1024 resolution which seems a little lower than normal but acceptable.

As Kristof mentions dont even touch the curbstone at pit exit as you will get a cut track warning.  I do believe in 1 lap I didnt touch it but went completly over it with no warning.

Did 1:45's after about 5 laps in full alfatina mode...hiccup  with my standard cortina setup on middle gears.  I think I could get 1:42's by race day.

This track is wide and has great elevation changes and good flow.  Lets do it!

Did some more playing around with that pit exit curb and it is definately weird.  Seems ultra sensitive for about the first half and notso in the second half.

Got a cut track when I didnt even touch it in the first half(was very close, but never touched it at all)) on a lap and then planned on late apexing it the next lap and going over it 'blatantly' and didnt get a cut track.

Best to steer clear, but if ya gotta touch it, save it for the last half

I got the cut-track once... but couldn't replicate it.... even my drunken driving over the kerbs didn't bring the warning... so dunno, li,e Gary said, stay clear and all should be well i guess.
FPS was fine with some stutter within the complex before the S/F, reduced special FX and that cured it.

i've been thinking.. the starforcecrap checks the disc.. so even if you use your original code, the install will require the new discs code... in other words.. if i send you mine.. i get copyrightinfringed... allthough you say it wont happen i'm not taking the risk... and i guess by all the replies.. neither do they nailzy.. so ... sorry

go to ebay or somewhere and just order a damned new one!
