A change of schedule?
« on: May 17, 2009, 02:13:33 am »
Does anyone feel it would be a good idea to decrease the frequency of Alfatina racing? Perhaps just for the duration of the Northern Hemisphere's summer months?

Maybe a monthly, or biweekly schedule would be easier?

I'm sorry to step on the toes of Shedz, Shite, and Lee enterprises.

well if low numbers for the last too weeks are why you ask. i would point the finger at the missing forum calender.
seems folks just don't know where to look for their date with Miss Tina. not meaning to belittle the great work done by yourselves to make the forum look swish.
just missing the calender.
if low numbers are not why you ask then my answer is simply no. i enjoy organising these events very much even though i don't make it to them all.
having an Anticup is one of the best things at SJ, along with the smileys of course  :excited:

The Alfatina is one of the THE highpoint of my SJ calendar, but something is awry.
The midnight start time was a a genius concept ... late... but not THAT late, US boys finishing work and the odd Ozzy having breakfast and spinning a tyre or two.
There is a balance to strike ... I've noticed that the Euro folk are buggering off because it's just too damned late when we start ... we say 12 o'clock, but it's approaching an hour or so after that sometimes when we kick off. I love the anarchy of the Alfatina, and just enjoy the vibe most of the time, but it can't just be "Do what you want when you want to" ... let's at least have a couple of races that start somewhere near time.

AlfaTina starts 1:00 CET, but like you already said Pete, the actual start of the first race is sometimes almost an hour later sometimes. I often only did one race because it was already way passed 2 am by that time. So yes, start time can be an issue for some.

However I'm wondering why you ask this question, Marcus... Well, I have an idea what the answer is, but I might be wrong of course  :)

I know this is not the main question here, but speaking as an Aussie who tries to join these as often as possible, I'd be happy with a slightly earlier start time if that helps keep the Euro guys participating. These are the most enjoyable events at SJ for me, and they also serve a valuable aid for getting new members into racing here. The concept is brilliant, even if we don't always get full grids.  :)

Yeah very fun event.. but its simply so damn late. This friday, when we had finished the first race it was something like 3:00-3:30 for me, pretty damn late time to be messin about with the steering wheel.

guy's if your in the Alfatina event you are as, ive said before as much in control as anyone (see Pete last week wanting to do shooting). if your sat there looking at the clock thinking you might not be able to continue. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use your voice let us know. people will snap into action. if nobody speaks up at the time then nobody will be in a hurry to start. Alfatina is a relaxed event but not so much so that people feel they have to leave.
speak up at 12pm and we will start on time.

Marcus, what benefit is there to not have an AlfaTina?

In my opinion, it is the best event of the week, and the reason I joined SJ in the first place.

I get off of work at midnight, so if the time is changed, I won't be able to make the race at all.

I had to work late last week and this week, am out of town, but the last race I was at, we had over 18 people, and the week before that, over 20.

Just my 2 cents, but I am interested to hear how canceling events will benefit SJ, as I am at team player 100%.

I think Marcus was just brainstorming an idea to maintain big grids.

I think it should stay weekly just as it is.

As has been said before - trying to get the first race started close to the 0015 BST start time is helpful to the Euro types.

But remember, no one wants to be the party pooper who says: 'You're going to have to wait for the next race cos this race is starting NOW!' so really, it needs to be a consensus thing rather than waiting for someone to speak up.

As to the lack of calender - hopefully, we can get used to looking at the Events menu, or the News Scroller  or the front page or the Notice Board, to see what's coming up - We will be adding a weekly timetable too, with the regular events on it, so the only thing we'll be missing from the old system is a hard wired link into the relevant thread - can we cope without that - bearing in mind there is a link to the relevant forum board in the announcement?

 :)

There is an event scroll bar at the top of the forum too.  It's the blue thingy at the top. :)

And yes I was just thinking about full grids.  Nothing more :)

Why don't we also do a US version starting midnight in one of your time zones? Just try a couple, if it doesn't work it doesn't work ... but if it does it could mean even more folk getting the chance for inebriated racing with their mates .... I guess the Vampires already do this to an extent though.

Maybe we could start half an hour earlier and do a race extra. The first race will probably be difficult for to make for the US guys, but it gives the Europeans a better chance (there are 3 timezones in Europe btw  :innocent:) and the last race it will be the opposite way.

Just a thought of course...

Sure  :excited:

Most pre-alfatina events end that mostly before that suggested half an hour anyways right?

and once we're done we mostly jump to the alfatina channel anyways.
