Sound Blaster XFI, Ventrilo and GTL problem
« on: June 07, 2009, 07:54:56 am »
I'm having problems running Ventrilo while racing in GTL. Could be I need some special settings in Ventrilo but I think I've tried them all?

What I get is mostly a very high pitch of the ingame sound that momentarily drops back to normal once and a while. Conversations on Ventrilo are fully normal it's just the sound from the game that changes.

The sound card I have is a SundBlaster XFi.

Suggestions anyone?

I have no clue, so mine is a guess:

-hardware accelleration
-some games have a soundsetting which enables 16 or 32 bit mixing?  might be that the game is set to 32 or something and ventrilo overrides the game to clear some soundchannels?!

I really dont know how they work, just brainfarts here m8ey.. hope they make sence.

I don't have the card and have never heard of this issue beofre. Frank's point about knocking back hardware acceleration a notch is definitely worth exploring. The only other think would be a cruise around the driver applet to see if there are any 'advanced settings' options ticked (sound expansion, aural effects etc.) and uncheck them. :dunno:

Try Defaulting the X-Fi settings in game mode then testing it. Then if it works okay like that, set about tweaking to your taste and test.

Also make sure your drivers are up-to date as another thought
