Intro to rFactor endurance series
« on: August 07, 2008, 10:21:14 am »
Welcome to
Simjunkies rFactor endurance series.

This is a special series for Simjunkies rFactor league using SCC v1.2 all add-ons
Which includes GT series, LMP1 & 2.
You are free to choose whatever class of cars you like but you need to use that car for all races you choose to enter.

This will be a team based series.
Teams can be from 2-4 racers. We will enable team swapping in this series.
It will be like this.
Teams will be 2 or 4 man teams. IF there is four man in a team there will be 2 drivers on each car.
Each driver does half the race. if there is a 2 man team the same applies only the team will have 1 car in game. That way it would be TEAM *something 1* and *something 2*

::::::DRIVER SWAPPING GUIDE::::::
MADE BY Kevin White and Jim Pejsa

THIS NEEDS PRACTICE PEOPLE. It is easy when you have tried a few times.

Remember that if you should choose to run the whole race alone in 1 car. The team is of course allowed to do as they see fit.
Test different ways of driver swapping.

Example 1.
3 man team enters with 2 cars and 1 spectator. after 1/3 of the race the spectator swaps with 1 of the cars. 2/3 in the race the swapper jumps into the OTHER team car and swaps with that driver. when race is finished they will have driven 2/3 each and also filled up the grid with 2 cars.

Example 2.
2 man team drives half the race each in one car

Example 3.
4 man team has 2 cars in game and drives half the race each just like a 2 man team. only called team1 and team2

Example 4.
each man decides to run the whole race alone.

I am sure you will find a combo that suits your team. Duplicate cars is not a problem here.

There will be a winner in all classes.
This is to make sure that there is a reward for everyone to fight for.
GT class will as known have NO chance against LMP1 class, but will compete for championship in their class anyway.

This league will be raced on *insert day* 1-2 times a month depending of time of year (holidays and so forth)
To a total of 6 races.

Races will be held on famous tracks around the world.
VLN-Le-mans, VLN-Mid-Ohio & Rouen Les Essarts are tracks that already are booked and are being prepared by locals for these big events. The number of viewers is calculated to be record braking and so extra tents for food and refreshments is being brought in.

Races will be made out of a number of laps, but as close to 3 hours as possible calculated from a LMP1 car around each track.
Le-mans will simulate 24 hours race, or as close as possible.
Rouen Les Essarts will simulate 12 hours or as close as possible.
Other tracks will simulate given time when decided.

Damage will be set to 20% & fuel consumption will be at normal, tyre-usage likewise.

This is going to be hard for most people, but there are bragging rights built in to this.

Not decided yet. But we are not talking months away. More weeks. But time will tell. Things need to be completely decided first.

with the full monza race, make sure that the prototypes can get around the banking, it's harder than it sounds, but i love the idea :)

We will just have to test that of course. If it seems undoable then we will use another track. Until it has been declared unfit, it will stay as is.
Thanks for the info man. It helps.  thumbs up

BTW I have now updated the first post with different examples of driver swapping ideas, just to let everyone know that you are free to do as you see fit in each team. There is no boundries in this league when it come to strategy.
Possibly it could be the strategy that wins a 3 hour race for the team. thumbs up

Racing date is soon to be announced.

Sure, like I said in the first post now.
You are free to choose your own way of driving. No worries there.
You do as you please. 30 mins at the time or whatever. up to you.
Just hope as many as possible will get in. I did race agains AI yesterday as you might have seen in the first post now at the bottom.
Damn it was fun....

BTW, I could set this up for "tracktesting day" on a thursday. Just for practice.
Or set up a server so people can join and test as much as they want, unless the server is causing problems for other leagues.

Like I said. You do as you see fit. I would love for more cars on track instead of more people in a car, but again, you do as you see fit.

Me Caspar and Gizmoto will probably be 3 people in 2 cars. swapping between cars doing 2/3 of the race each.

I know I'm being a bit anal, but how would this work with points allocation?

edit: errrrr, just worked it out - car 1 and car 2 score the points yeah? not so much drivers. I see, I think

It has to be worked on a bit with the points thingy.
But it will be done. I am thinking about it.

Gizmoto is a master with points, so I will lend his advice alot.

I love this idea.  But I hate this game and I hate this mod, but I'm going to have to forget about because this has to be done.  But I am going to have to find a car that I feel right in.  P2 or GT2.

Read it carefully if you are planning to use it and practice with your teamates. Very important that you get your tactics set up when swapping. VERY IMPORTANT TO PRACTICE. :salute:

To use these "Bright_Headlights" just put the file "HL_2_PLR.DDS" in your "Vehicles" folder.  Then edit the "<car_name_here>.gen" with the following information (Making this change in the gen file will not cause online mismatches):

Projector=Headlight
{
Moveable=True Dyn=True Active=False Pos=(0.0, 0.10, -77.2) Dir=(0.0, -0.5, -1.0) Radius=(28.0) Blend=(InvDstColor, One) Texmap=HL_2_PLR.DDS
}

I was going to add this to the first post when I got back home. did not have time yesterday to do it. Yes this is a good thing to have at night. And there will be night races (24 hours)

I will add this to the first post aswell when I get home.

Again. Read the driverswap guide if you wanna use driverswap in your team. Also read on how to use individual setups for each driver if you wanna do that.
Everything is in the guide.

Pardon me for being useless at this kind of stuff, but I have some questions.
I D/L the bright lights, unpacked the HL_2_PLR.DDS file.
Opened gameData, vehicles and placed it at the bottom of the list, is this correct or should I open the SCC folder and place it in there?
Next, when I open the SCC folder/AudiR8 I see the AudiR8short (and long).gen files, when I go to open them I get a message from windows (vista) telling me I can not open this, do I want to select a program to open it with, or search the net for one. Could someone explain what I need to open the file and if possible post a link to where I can D/L something to open it with, so I can adjust the lights.
Thanks
Mike

EDIT, thanks works a treat

good to see more are coming on board, I would love to see more cars though as this series looks to be a great test.
As we are only about a week off could we have some more detail pls on times laps and official prac and when servers will be up so driver swaps can be tested etc. Could we also have the links for the upcoming tracks added so I can check to see I have the right version and do some off line testing etc.

Adrien (popo) can be added to the front page as a co-driver for Team Aus and we will be competing in an Audi.

correct me anyone if I am wrong, but I understand it to be:-

unpack D/L.
Copy HL_2_PLR.DDS , open Gamedata/vehicles and place it there.

Then open your SCC folder on the same page, open AudiR8 and open the AudiR8Long gen file and you should be able to scroll down to Projector=Headlight.
change the line to have the Pos, Dir and radius values as below
True Active=False Pos=(0.0, 0.10, -77.2) Dir=(0.0, -0.5, -1.0) Radius=(28.0) Blend=(InvDstColor, One) Texmap=HL_2_PLR.DDS
}

Save it and do the same for the Audi short GEN file

and I think you should be right

The readme in the D/L explains it as well
Hope that helps
Mike

Has there been any more though on what track will be used for the last race, perhaps we could put forward some suggestions and Admin could decide from there.
to get the ball rolling, if thats not too forward, here are a few suggestions,

Spa, classic track and loved my many and would get my vote over any other
Silverstone
Road America
Watkins Glen (long)
Sepang, very wide and very fast with some real tight bits
Brands hatch
Phillip Island
Daytona (24hrs track)

add your picks to the list (  :dont look now:  if thats ok with Admin of course)

Mr Admin, since it looks likely we are redoing the Mid Ohio race i have decided to stand down from the Team AUS team.
And will start up a new team myself called Team AUS Jnr. I will drive a Dallara LMP in the LMP900 class. Thats if its okay with you.  :)

Spa, Watkins and Daytona all sound good to me. The only other track that might belong on the list would be Bathurst.... but in the end i'd probably go for Spa as well... or maybe Daytona... or maybe Watkins...

My 2 cents worth for the last round option:

Spa
Daytona Road course
Suzuka
Interlagos or even Jacarepagua
Hermanos Rodriguez
Phillip Island
Eastern Creek (Laser)
Montreal

And i could go on and on

I have put in Mid ohio (wich is next) and Sebring.

For a euro league, thats not bad....

But I will not tell what track it is.

No it will be 600 laps around jacksonville lol lol lol lol in gt cars.

there is a shitload of tracks to choose from, and every single on would be a blast.

I have chosen a track that works just as good in the dark as in the night and it is sweet as hell. Prob one of the best tracks for rFactor that has not been made by VLN.

Now there's a challenge, there would be at least 3 Aussies who would by into that fight (on the track)  LOL

Will the Brianza round be with half or the full oval (full is a bit long and tedious)?

and any more hints on the last round location

Ah yes, the SCC enduro!

We'll kindly ask Cato when he's happy with how we play nicely in F3Nippon.  :)

I have had this in my mind now for a few days actually.

i have been thinking about setting this up again with all new stuff.

Same mod though, with the optional new soundpack for the LMP class cars.. ( a must have for the mod)

Follow announcements on the matter.

Day of race is a bit un-decided though. as weekends are pretty much taken.

! option is to have qualifying one week and 2 hour race anouther week. then it would be not as hard to find time for it, since the races events normally last about 2 hours every time, from praccy til race finished..

I will then have to place all guys on grid manually, but that is not a problem if everyone meets up on time, or if not, start from the back.

ooooooh, just read that this might fire up again, yeehaww!!!

Would love to attend if time zones dont clash.
Your Sat night, our Sunday morn worked well for me in the last races (hint, hope, hint   :innocent:)

As a suggestion to format,
Perhaps limiting classes would get more interested, ie LMP1 & 2 + GT or LMP2 & GT.
2 hour races, single driver (to get more cars on the grid) maybe 3 hour finallie.
prac normal but Qualli in a superpole single or 2 lap format. (similar or same as what OSJ GTL do)
some 6, 12 and 24 hour simulations for different races. I loved racing with lights.
Manditory stop for fuel and 4xtyres in any combo ensureing a 2 stop race with strategy involved.
(perhaps even 2 stops for LMP and 1 for other classes to even out competition ??)
Teams and driver enduro title over maybe 6-8 races for each class
Use some classic circuits LeMans, Spa etc and also use some smaller tighter (slower) circuits.   Maccau ????
May be 3 European, 2 N American, 1 UK, 1 Aus + 1 other

just a few thoughts for interesting and closer racing, but anything will do.....   :D
