Oh, that's horrible news.  They should have tethered wheels like F1 has.  (or maybe they already have them, I know in some cases the tether isn't enough).

I watched the end of that race and heard about the accident. After 2 laps of the WTCC race they brought him to the hospital with the heli. I was wondering why it took so long to do that (accident had happened almost an hour before the heli departed  :?:) Anyway, it's very tragic and it shows that despite all the security measures that are in place today, racing still is dangerous.

Horrible news.
I immediately remember meeting his father at Spa in 2006 and can't believe that friendly face having to cope with this tragedy.

Thats horribly sad. After watching the video, the only thing I can think is that they maybe should have better tethers. Even then, I do not know how this could have been avoided with cars like these. It is hard to keep the wheels on in an accident like that, the tire just got the kid perfect.

I feel horrible for his father. He came through the deadliest time in F1 to see it (and other series like it) become far safer, but then his son is taken away by it. Very sad.

Very sad indeed.

Looking at the video, I reckon it was the barrier impact that got him in the end.

The tyre knocked him out cold, then for the barrier impact he would not have braced himself.  Very likely to have severe head & neck problems after that.

Fuck  :(  high price to pay, shame it takes this sort of stuff to make us realise motor sport has a higher cost than dollars, and i know, they all know the risks, so do soldiers but non go to war thinking they will die.
