getting this today..
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:34:06 pm »
I never considered it before. I thought the general consensus was it sucked to be honest. I was sure I read a lot of "It's too arcadey" type posts but maybe I was wrong. (?)

Anyways, Fleischi suggected earlier this week I should get it.

Seems surprisingly hard to find. nothing on Amazon.ca
BUT! EBGames has a copy nearby. Same one I got my GTL from. Cool beans.

They put one aside for me and as the wife is going to be at the walmart on the same lot this afternoon, she will be picking it up for me. YAY!!

Can't see where I'll get the time but if nothing else I can use the Nordshlieffe fpr GTR2/GTL/rfactor as I recall versions for at least one of them buut ir required a disc check.

So, does Geditor work for this? Are the cars set up similiar to GTR2??? huh huh??

lol

Is it worth the 20 bucks? Or is it crap?

Stick with it mate.  I have found STCC has provided some of the closest racing I have experienced in Race etc...

Well, I wanted to use the noCD/DVD patch from NoGri[p but it doesn't work and if I read it right, it only works with "offline" install.

Ah well. So far I like this. love the '87 M3. Only drove that on Nordshlieffe so far. Once I went through the plr and turned off all the aids and tuirned that bloody "steerring force" down, it feels quite nice. Love the souinds. Tire squeakl is MUCH more realistic on this. and of course it's WAY better in feel than rfactor. But I've never been a fan of the numbness in rfactor so...easy win.

Files look much different for cars and it seems looking in the paint area here, any info on paint is a closely guarded secret. Found templates though.

So....all race07 tracks work with this eh? From what i see the "EVO" part is only 4 cars. Whoopdeedoo. lol

One thing I can't figure out is where to get the Volvos? i see one painted here (SJ) the big 4 door thingie (S60?) and I saw the V40 i think it is (Smsall wagonish thing) in screenies at NoGrip but they must be mods eh? As I sure as hell can't find them!!

I see too they seem to have gotten rid of being able to save a race. That sucks. One reason I never actually do a "race" in rfactor as with kids running around I need to stop and start longer races. But it does seema nice game to do laps anyways. it's worth it for that and along with the older M3, i also like the R8 so that'll be fun.

Next step is to figure how to add tracks and then see if I can do my livery on the M3......

so, does this steam thing take away my right to put the install where I want it? And to have multiple installs?  doesn't seem to be anything there. just game icons in the steam folder.

Tried to launch STCC and it said I had to installl race07. But I already DID!!
Then their version of Race07 woon't launch at all, says it will be "ready in approx 2 hoursplus" WTF?!?

Screw it, I'll just play Evo and see if I can get STCC on disc. Right after I remove all this Steam shit from my computer.

So I guess the idea of this crap is to stop us from modding our games??

It'll be downloading and installing files from't net Den! chill!! lol

modding is still pretty easy, the idea behind steam was to make it easier to get games, and then harder to pirate them...

I downloaded HL2 again last night, it's always good to go back too!

plus you need it to race online...

Well, it's there but I can't find files for STCC anywhere so am sticking to the install from disc. I don't see it being easier if it takes 3 bloody hours to install! the disk took less time even including the wife's shopping trip to get it! lol

If I buy a game it's MINE and they can take a flying **** lol

Anbyways.I find I really like the feel once I went through the settings. Very nice. Also the sound is nice and I can "feel" the car losing traction. very nice.

Maybe a small thing but I do so love the working wipers. Also that it cleans the windshield. Small detail maybe but for me it's the small details I notice.

I do like this game. very much.

So, how the Hell do I get the  1.1.1.20 Patch?

I see lots of mention but nowhere to actually download it except mention of Steam and I've NO intention of dealing with that crap again.

 Thanks Gooseman.

the Steam install doesn't work today anyway.

EDIT: Added the patch, game crashed. then looked in folder and realized why. Second install is renamed as it's my "mod" install and had two .exe's. oops! hahahahaa.

Don't care about the Steam install as the disk install works beautifully. Running the R8 at Brand's Hatch and.....

It starts RAINING!! SWEEEEET!! I'm really starting to love this game. LOVE the changeable weather. thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

And so. I'm surprised. wasn't sure about getting this and am now thrilled I did.

Installed the GTL and GTR2 mods to my "mod" install as I love the cars on those and feel to try to bring across my  cars for them willl introduce me to the file structure before I venture into more Race07/Evo territory. lol

I'm quite happy at this point to play with the 0ld M3 and R8 so it may be a bit........ lol :rotfl:

I suspect I will be spending a lot of my time on this now. Love it. I feel more like driving a real car with this than any of the others so far.

Steam's actually pretty awesome once you get used to it.  Just install the online version (steam version) with the GTR evo DVD. then it will automatically update to the latest version when you try to run the game or if you just leave it alone for awhile.  And after it does that (update itself to the latest patch) everything that is needed to mod/skin etc. is right in you MyDocuments/Simbin folder.  Hope that helps a bit.

What was weird is that for the tracks, I put them in my root install and for the car I just did, it never showed up until I put it in the folder you mention. Strange goings on.....lol

 Thanks eh.

It seems my plr has migrated from the root userdata folder to the simbin thingie too!

Strange but it works so big whoop!

Did my first car for it also.

I am quite happy to boot it about. Took some head scratching to figure out but getting there.
Love the real weather. Love it more as I play it and figure it out more.

One thing. I started a championship but apparently you can't continue it once you stop. I went back to do the second race and it said it wouldn't load as I don't have the car or something to that effect. that sucks. lol

Ah well. will just not bother with them then. had a fun 1/2 hour at Goodwood though. Came in 14th. heehee.

Currently reinstalling it. Removed it along with that steam garbage. (just weird how it moved my plr and userdata from my G drive where my install is to my C drive...), did a registry clean and now a clean install.

Thinking I'm about to turn off the flags.

Drives ya nuts and set up to favour AI who bunt you off the track anyways. lol Not as bad as GTL or GTR2 but still......

Blue flag guy gets irritating, even gave me a "warning" to "MOVE OVER!!" when I was still in the pitlane at Laguna! And also warned me whan I was passing THEM!

Yellow flags, he tells you "DO NOT OVERTAKE". Okay so at Silverstone last night, I did as I was told as behind a slower car. then 3 AI cars blast past me. WTF??

So not a lot of negatives in all. Just the above, not being able to continue a Chamionship once you leave the game and it's a wee bit of a PITA to have to set the damage at 100% EVERY time you do a race, etc. And the set up saves, I'm not big on. I liked having a "common" folder as I find a set up I like and use it as a default pretty much for that vehicle.

But all in all, I really like it.
