FVRV8 2008 Aussie V8 Racing Series Released for GTR Evo
« on: February 09, 2009, 12:07:55 pm »
Welcome to the FVR V8 2008 Aussie Racing Series v1.4 by the FVRFactor.com mod team!!

This is a conversion of the rFactor FVR V8 mod and uses the same car models as from this mod.

I joined FVRfactor.com in November 2008 and took on the project to convert rF FVRV8_08 to EVO. I have enlisted the support and assistance of our group of Beta Testers (some previous critics, followers and impartial followers of the original FVRV8 series) that have provided us with mountains of work but in the end a good driving experience. The cars are the older model style and will updated along with rFactor versions to v1.5. Organising and coordinating this project has been a huge amount of fun and also a massive learning curve for me.

Although this was a conversion almost every file in this mod has been modified or scratch written.

This mean a huge amount of work, especially FlashQld redoing many graphic models (sometime more than a few times), but we got there in the end.

Jason Madigan joined the FVR team not long after me and took on the physics modelling to get the best out of the GTR Evo and the results speak for themselves.

The skins were already ready and waiting ex the rF version and a big thanks goes out to Ferret40 for his great work on the full 2008 team line-up plus a few touch ups to get it just right in Evo.

dbens1, amongst other things reworked the cam files to suit the adjusted models and Evo. Nice...

Features added to the GTR Evo release:
- Custom Skin support using the "CustomSkins" folder .ini system
- Animated wipers
- Wet tyres and independent front and rear tyre physics models
- Functioning Rain/Dirtscreen

Known issues:
- Wipers are limited in that they only semi-clear rain water drops on the right hand side of the rainscreen. This is an issue within Simbins code that all (yes, even the RHD Lister) only clear the left hand side fully. Seems to work ok at clearing the dirt build-up.
- Non-adjustable Final Rear Diff Ratio. The Aussie V8 Series use fixed gearbox ratios with 4 final diff ratios to choose from. GTR Evo doesn't support this being adjustable, so we have included 4 default setups for both the Commodore and Falcon which can be found here:

...\race 07\UserData\CarSetups\_Output\
&
...\race 07\UserData\CarSetups\FVRV8_08_Setups\

Installation:
- extract to main Race07 folder

e.g.

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\**you-user-name**\race 07\

This Mod wouldn't have been possible without:
- FlashQld, FVRFactor Founder
- Ferret40, FVRFactor Founder
- dbens1
- Mojo66
- petrs73
- Angus94
- os-chris
- Michael51
- FastEddieWoe, www.Motorheadz.net and their crew! esp for hosting our test servers
- FOG-Carsten
- Vancstar
- our beta testing team
- Simbin (of course)
- And you, the Sim Racing Community!

Enjoy and please feel free to join up at www.FVRFactor.comhttp://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=16844

I did test it last nigh and find the mode to be quite good.

Feels much like the rFactor mod, but with all the features of GTR E.

Driving these in the rain on Curitiba was a show for sure...

Post GTR Evo patch 1.2.0.1 bug fix to restore missing Drivers/Teams:

cut the FVRV8_08_Addon folder to desktop, load game, star a race in any car, quit, paste back FVRV8_08_Addon folder to Teams folder and all drivers/cars are back...

You should have:
VE=16
BF=13

Now...

Not a problem with space, but i just dont like filling it with stuff i drive once or twice.
Loved the V8s in rCraptor, and as this is pretty same apparently i know hows it going to be.
Ill get it if we ever choose to use it in SJ.. Im sure its very good.
:)

EDIT:Ok ok i give up, im insomniac so i guess i could try it. lol

Fun, yes....

XWTCC, 1000kg, 600HP, AeroSpace materials, Aero "more powerful" than a F1 car ? V8 Supercar, 1435kg, 630HP, some carbon bits, Aero more like a WTCC '87

hmmm ok.. i hope you understand these are my personal views/observations, and i really appreciate efforts of people like you who are willing to put their time to give us simracers free goodies, i know how much involvement modding takes.. but i do feel a need to be honest with this one..

-Graphically very nice job
-Performance was very good also
-Sounds were good. (Simbin sounds?)
-Very fun to drive

Then few things that i didnt like..

-Despite being very fun to drive, they didnt feel very realistic (or believable), extremely easy to drive (problem with the whole gtr evo unfortunately), impossible to spin.. Cars feel too much like the GT cars in GTR Evo.
-Setup options also feel very little in the car. I went from default to a very extreme setup.. the difference was tiny, the way i made the setup V8 supercar should be close to impossible to drive, instead i was attacking corners at Brands just as aggressive as with default setup, no problems.
-Damage seems to make no or very small effect, after the start i crashed almost flat out to cars in front, didnt notice anything on the handling.. crashed bit more.. same deal.

Im sure these would be a blast to have a race with no doubt, thanks for you hard work!

They are a bit more tail happy than the rFactor mod of the same cars.
On the other hand, I do find they are easier then the V8factor mod.....
as from V8 supercars, I still find the V8factor mod to be the better one, but these can be run in rain and has more features that makes it more immersive...

I dunno....   V8factor 1.20 still rules the top of my list, but as for a HUGE league, these might just come out best in the community.

I have raced the V8Factor and I have driven a NZV8 car (somewhat different spec to Aussie V8, less grip on the NZ's) and also have comments from RL V8 Supercars drivers...

RL Drivers "...V8Factor is good with TC on but not perfect...
I have a good understanding of how these cars actually handle in RL and up to 98% they are actually quite controllable, but work up to 100% and the boys fade and the masters rule. We tried to get this in the mod by have the cars quite drivable, but leave a little something for the aliens out there... Try a track like Ruapuna and get a bit too much rumble strip and these car loose their "planted" feeling really quick ;)
On a side note, GTR Evo does give some funny feelings to any car run on it's platform, but we are mostly happy with it.

We are not finished at release v1.40 either (which graphically is a conversion, but the rest is scratch built), we are already working hard on v1.5... Many changes in the future...

Re: Damage, this was somewhat limited to the components that came from the rF mod in the first place... This is to be improved in later releases...

Couple questions because im curious. :)

Hmm so did you attempt to simulate TC without having actually TC on in game? Do these have TC in real life?

The way i did the "extreme setup testing" at brands hatch was that i took all rear wing off, rear ARB as tight as it gets, front ARB as soft as it gets, rear springs as hard as you can, dropped toe to 0, dropped camber closer to neutral. And i definitely was attacking corners like crazy..
Maybe i had TC on accidentally, i will check it later on.. i never use it though, but maybe the game put it up by itself. (i did set it to "pro" mode though i suspect its not even available then)

These are surely a blast to drive, just seem agile and grippy for a big aussie V8.
:)

Oh, same as above really.

And yes. They are fun to drive.....  If you aim for reality, I prob will never ever be able to answer at all, but the fun factor I can answer and the feel factor as well.
Fun factor is high due to driveabillity and groundforce.
Feel factor is DIFFERENT, and prob very much due to the way SIMBIN has set up the game-engine to be. (dummed down to fit consoles if you ask me)

Look forward to hearing and driving more of these and following updates.

We didn't use any TC, what the RL drivers said was that V8Factor was quite close to RL with TC turned on...

FVRV8 worked on tyre slip curves that delivered something similar without the use on the in-game TC. Not that we used any V8Factor data in the first place... But you see where I'm coning from ...

More testing done in this mod.

I am currently doing offline champ with changeable weather and full grid. 21-22 cars?
100% difficulty and of course settings on pro(simulation)

The car feels very stable even on default settings. I only change steering lock.

AI seems fine. doing as they should. Banging a bit, missing some corners and behave "natural" they do crash into you if you brake oddly and they make mistakes as they should.

Damage is maybe to small compare to impact, but shuold be fixable in the future I guess.
When you race on wet surface, the car still handles very good. Maybe a bit easy for some aliens, but I feel i can make huge mistakes if I throttle to hard out of corners or even on straight at low gears. So that seems just fine for me.

The more you drive these the more you will probably like them.
I will watch the progress closely.

Good job.

Thanks for your feedback Notsofrisk :)

I'll look into the damage radii and see if I can reduce it just a bit. The issue I had before the release was that you only just touched the front of the car and killed the engine... Also, the lack of a front splitter as an individual component might have some effect on all this...

Jason spent quite a bit of time trying to get the default setup to be very raceable, and I too usually just adjust the steering lock out to max 33 degrees (G25 720 degrees) and then small tweaks to camber and tyre pressure on a per track basis...
