You got it right Ray.

I think the bulk of problems are caused by using anything but a virgin install of GTR2.  During beta testing I used a fresh install every time.  The only CTD's I had were a result of alt/tabs.

We all know how refreshing a virgin install can be.  If anyone hasn't tried it this way, I'd suggest you put your fingers in it, and see how well it fits you afterward.

I have tried 24 times to put this in, FRESH install, not altered, and updated to 1.1...NEVER INSTALLS>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!

For those that have it, congratulations, I am with Heat Can, on this one...... Putting it away, and will not try anymore.............

CTD?

c'mon, how can u put up with that.....?

A properly created program/game will NEVER CTD.

I am not bashing Historic Racing.... but if you can lower your standards, to allow for short such things as CTD, continuous patching, then you will only become more and more frustrated with GTR2.

How many of you "Played", your virgin install, before you added P&G?

It didn't crash to desktop then.....did it??

Just curious.

I have gotten help from members of the GTL Workshop, and other very experienced Modders, and not a one of us has gotten this to install.

Cheers to all that can run it!!!

Jeff

so far in the time I've had P&G2 installed i have had 1 CTD this was after the race{Midohio forgot how many laps it was } i had driven all the way round the track slowly on a slow down lap and was entering the pits  with everybody leaving the game and I'm still not sure it was that as i dashed to the loo when i got back my virus was doing an update so it could have been that that cased it

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I had a strange episode with P&G last night.  I had left the server to change from the blue Ferrari 250 to the Lightweight 275; when I came back in, I suffered a CTD.  Not entirely unexpected, and re-launched the game, only for it to refuse to load, and kick me back to desktop; tried several more times, including following a re-boot, but the game refused to load.  Checked to see if had perhaps reset the resolution.. no dice; deleted the HAT file... no dice; deleted replay files... no dice.  In fact, I did everything I could think of, then finally uninstalled/reinstalled Power & Glory, and all appears to be well.  Weird sh1te though, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems.  It should also be noted that I never had particular issues with GTR2, and certainly did not experience CTD's with such regularity, prior to installing the mod; not a gripe, but an observation, you understand.

And Jeff... stick with it mate, because once the bugs have been squashed, P&G will be the only game you want to fire up.  The feel from the cars is up there with NR2003 feedback, which in my opinion has always been superior to anything offered by S*mbin, rFactor and so on.  On top of this, you have some delicious car models, and above all, the sounds are as good as any I have heard.  A masterpiece.

Sh1te,
Same happened to me. Got a CTD-went to restart the game-wouldnt even get to the 1st screen.Tried a dozen times. Restarted my puter a couple of times-no change. Uninstalled+ reinstalled PnG2-all was well.

I wish PnG2 sucked-it would be easy to walk away from it--but it doesnt...

If GTR2 isn't even starting or getting to the menu please read this thread for a possible solution.

i had exactly the same problem the other night sh1te,when we were mucking around at brno,i couldn't join for love nor money, and it was the Lightweight 275 too

likewise i have never experienced the CTD in GTR2 even with shit loads of mods added to it,and i used to alt-tab regularly as well.

when i mentioned this the other day Aristoteles said my graphics driver may not be compatible.

well i'm sorry, but whats the point of releasing a mod/addon if it's not going to work with modern drivers.

cos i sure as hell ain't gonna keep changing back to an older version just to play a game,no matter how much i love it.

that's a gripe btw
lol

i love P&G2 when it works though.

I understand your frustration guys. Nevertheless, please try to understand my point of view. I cannot know if you're an avid GTR2 gamer or an occasional one. So I always start form the basics. I offer the basic advice and one by one I eliminate possible issues and go to more difficult ones.

Also from the thousands that download the mod, unfortunately for you but fortunately for us, only a relatively small percentage seems to have serious CTD problems and form that small percentage the vast majority is related to server/client problems.

We are a small group of modders that have created one of the biggest mods ever. I'm not talking about quality here, this is for you to judge, but I'm talking about "dimensions" and that is a fact. We don't have the resources of a big team and not even the tools to find out what causes CTDs on some PC configurations. So we trying to figure out as they appear.

So I'm really sorry, it was not my intention to ask you to change video drivers for the mod only. I assumed -wrongly- that it was a general issue with GTR2.

In the following days I will ask the SJ server admins to join me to a chat, where I will explain all the methods possible to eliminate as much problems as possible. We will also publish a new tool that might help more. We are trying hard as we can, but for sure we won't be able to help everybody.

Happy new year.

Well, troubles aside, i want to say thanks for all the hard work, its a masterpiece.

i do hope in time we can eliminate/lessen the CTD's, as that is the only flaw imo.

Aris thank you for all your help.  And thank you for the great mod.  I hope you wont take peoples frustration personally.  Those of us that have experienced the mod do enjoy it to a very great extent.

As for me, I can't play online and I still haven't heard back from viva media about getting a new online code.  So I should go on a rant about that!

No worries at all Marcus. I don't take peoples frustration personally, on the contrary I feel their pain. That's why I'm trying to understand the problem. GTR2 can be quite an pain in the ass... The ctd happen online but not offline. Why? who knows, log files show nothing as usual.. go figure

Aristotelis, please accept my appologies,it was not a dig as such,i'm just so frustrated cos when it works it is superb, but  when it plays up i could quite happily chuck my pc out the window,i suppose the problems i'm having today with the graphics card aren't helping either.

A man after my own heart!  lol I am sure that my problems are related to add-on tracks; will experiment if my install goes tits up again.  Problems or not, I just ran the big 'Vette against E Types, Cobras, Ferrari's and the like, and it was great fun!

Just a question Ari, and it is not that I am ungrateful for the work you have done, but why were there no Astons in the game?

No astons yet because we think there wheren't up to the rest of the cars quality standards. The F250 too was about to not be included... but the new cockpit gave it the green light, although we still don't like the exterior

well the project ain't over yet... and we intend to do the same step from v2 to v3, as we did from v1 to v2... but v2 has UI and physics... so we need to work on cars...  :badaboomtish:

Maybe there is something to it being a hardware problem, since we have very similar PC's and neither of us can run this mod. I'll test soon on another pc and see it I get the same issues.

Apologies if our venting sounds like criticism, it's merely frustration not being able to run this mod with our friends online. :)
