Hey Gator,

GTR2 tends to have many CTD's.  Try to avoid alt tabbing.  Also switching cars in GTR2 and going back to track repeatedly has been known to cause it to crash.

GTR2 is a dirty bugger.

i have been loving/hating PnG2 so far.  Loving its attention to detail and the amount of research and work that went into it.  Hating the brakes and frustration of trying to get some of the cars to turn, but that is what will have my loving it even more once i come to grips with it. :)  :)

i also have had many CTD's.  im going to add "-trace=100" to the command line of my PnG2 shortcut to see if it will create logs explaining the failures.

Regarding the CTD's Marcus has it right, plus, I hope you select option 1 or 2 of the installer and not 3. The last one can give problems as explained on the installer.
Also it seems that GTR2 put's quite some stress on the gfx chips, lot's of people had success by making the gfx card fans work more than the default settings

I know, I've found it often crashes to desktop the first time I use a track. Just after the loading screen. Then it's fine after that. Just something I've learned to get used to.

I'll tell thee what, if you folk fancy putting a few likely cars to Milan's track selection I'll put the schedule together this weekend (before if I can) and we can start rolling PDQ. :)
There's an awful lot more cars to chose from this time and for me to go through each track with an assortment of cars will take an age... so put some suggestions together and we can get the ball rolling (leave it!)

edit: Just caught up on my reading and things are afoot... P&G will be starting soon ... so disregard the above :)

Just a quick hint which I have found out the hard way.  The other night, my game refused to load up following a CTD; turned out I had to reinstall the game.  However, I followed a thread which advised that the mod sometimes seems to "forget" it is GTR2 v1.1, and the program can be restored by re-applying patch v1.1.  The problem is that the patch resets the user interface, which means that you cannot access all of the settings necessary to set the cars up.  I would recommend that you back up the "UIData" folder, which can then be reinstated if you suffer this particular issue.

Haven't read all of this thread, so I'm sorry if I am preaching to the choir.

Now Kris... we don't want you to lose sight of the fact that some of us are mere mortals, so no GT40's at a Cycle Lane with forced foot-steering (auto clutch allowed) OK  :)

Yeah.  He complains a lot, but he always manages to pull out something spectacular for the big finish.

A session with Dave always starts off with plenty of choke and then lots of clutch control.

please link us to said thread Dave, i have had setup anomalies from day 1, like the line at the end of 4th gear in setup menu deciding it wants to carry on to the left hand side of my monitor  :?:
i also had a hard reboot the other night during the P&G alfatina and once my PC had rebooted. my user profile(of which i had only 1 on a fresh GTR2/P&G install) had reset back to its default state, controller settings, driver aids, everything back to default.  :?:
any insight would be useful im sure.

It looks like my previous problems were hardware related conflicts, while I could play GTR2 and any other mods fine, it didn't work with P&G 2.

Now with differant hardware and the exact same install of gtr2 w/ p&g, it works fine, joined online and drove a few laps, no ctd's. Interesting!

Maybe it's an ati/nvidia thing? I went from ati to nvidia, will test more and see if any other problems arise.

I've got an ati/amd HD4870 and I've got no special problems (just the odd CTD like many others) and I'm sure there are more people having ati/amd graphics cards that are 'perfectly' able to play the mod. Of course it could be a problem with a specific type of graphics cards or the specific driver you used, but it's certainly not a general ATI problem.

Yes, sorry I didn't elaborate.

x800gto, same card as Jeff (HPI-rcr), both of us having identical problems no matter which drivers we tried. Or maybe it was just a fluke, who knows. rofl
