Pit Stops
« on: July 28, 2008, 02:17:57 am »
Ok, after making a complete royal stuff up of my pit stop in race 1,  silly arse I thought I would have a look around to find out what is the best method to complete a pit stop.  Had a look on the web, but could not really find anthing.

Also saw an article in the driving school here about pit stops in GTL,  thumbs up but not GTR2, So I thought I should ask those that will definetly know.

So, what do you guys do to get a good pitstop completed?

Just make sure your scheduled stop already has the amount of fuel and or tires selected before coming to a stop, make sure u have ignition/start keys mapped, always kill the engine when u stop or they wont start the fueling, make sure pit limiter is assigned, hit your marks and be prepared is about all i can think of. Hope this helps some brendon.

Ok...here is what i do (Strategy already set in the setup-menu, Auto-pit turned off, buttons assigned for Ignition, Starter, Neutral, Pit-request and Pit-limiter...and yes  of course you should remember where the buttons are in the race... rofl  ;) )...:

1. Hit the pit-request button at the beginng of the inlap

2. Drive into the pits and hit the pit-limiter at the correct position..(sometimes on some addon-track it`s not there where the lights are...i check this normally before the race and i also practice the pit-entry to make some more time good against the opponents)

3. Drive to my spot and before i reach my team i switch the gear in NEUTRAL and immediately after this i turn off the engine...so the last meters my engine is already turned off and i`m rolling noiesless to my spot...

4. After stopping hit enter if you`re ok with the pit-menu...(if everything works correct and you hitted alll the buttons just in time they will start immediately the refueling and don`t look so stupid around before they do that... lol

5. When they begin to change the rear tyres i turn on the engine again...

6. Wait until they are ready and go for it... thumbs up

Hope that helped..have good experiences with this procedure...

Frank

just a Far says

practice is the magic word, always haves have a quick drive through the pits of a new track or updated track, you don't have to do a full practice pit stop, depending on how important the race is to you, it's worth driving into the pits with the limiter OFF thus you can find out where the the pit start is, as sometimes it doesn't line up with the lights or the line on the track, also check the pit exit in the same way. also watch if the pits are on a hill ! like watkins glen as the car will reach it's limit speed very quickly.

you can even hear seasoned racers shouting where is the PIT entrance and i also remember a very funny dijon race where about 10 crashed going into the pits.

one thing further; change the line "locked pit cam" value to "1" in your .plr file, so as to avoid the totally unrealistic and distracting external views in pit-lane

Here's to Bill for defining it, Frank for the step by step and Dave for an additional suggestion!
