OSJ-Season 3 Discussion
« on: June 19, 2008, 06:00:40 am »
Hi guys...time to discuss the next season:

Here are my ideas so far (i want to make some fresh things which differentiate us from other GTR2 seasons) This is only a base for a discussion, nothing is fixed yet:

- championship with about 10 rounds

- GT-Cars or a special-mod with totally different cars than the default ones (i`m testing at the moment some mods)
I would like to see all in the same car or all in same strength cars...Lambo vs. F575 is such a selection)

- i would like to keep weight penalty

- changeable weather...produced and simulated with the NAW-Mod which is already on the server...it simulates and changes weather during the sessions...including rain and changing ambient temperatures...

- x2 tyres and x2 fuel

- race length min. 60 minutes

- rolling start

- 1-2 drop rounds

- 2 special runs: 1 Endurance run with double points and 1 Joker run with also double points.
(Joker-run means: the track and car will be unknown til 1.5-2 hours before the race... so it
will be a default car and maybe a default track. To make sure that we will not have an advantage, we could ask Ian to select the track and car for this race)

- Hot-lap qualyfying

- Tracks: we choose the best tracks out of the proposals at the forum...but it`s time to find some new tracks which aren`t so often used...

We'll do it as a team and well do my way, well do it my way or hit the highwaaaaaaaay.
There may be no "I" in "team" but there is a "ME" if ya look hard enough.

My way is:

Zolder, Silevrstone GP - the current one, Suzuka, Nurburgring 2.4hr, Lemans 2.4hr and the one in Portugal.

Bloody hand bags, standing start ya POOFs!

Variable weather, its a cracker.  The weather variations are not like the standard setup they are realistic.  If its pissing down at the beginning of a race it gona be like that all race, most likely.  I have had it where the temp slowly rises only a couple of deg over the race, but the bloody DONK starts to overheat and the rubber gos red, WOOT?  So during pracie, ya go to consider the race temp, it the engine is near the red, ya cant leave it there for the race, ya got to have some margin.  I usually have a hot and cold setup, which may be only 5deg diff in temp and you choose at Race start.  Its tough, for tough rugged men who call a spade a spade and hunt, fish, kill and eat little fury things.  It's for a maaaaaaaans; man like errr...me.

I prefer 3 x tyre but wont loose sleep over 2.

Drop ya 2 worst rounds.

LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of weight for Justin and a bit for THE ROCK!

Hot laps leave me cold, now that I think about it but it does move the gird around.  I takes about 30 min for top ten so I would go with top 5.

Maybe C5-Lister (Justin and THE ROCK), 575 & Lambo everyone else. (Arrrhaaaaar...    :biggrin:)
If thats not acceptable then I'll think up another way of trying to win :ttth:

So there you have it, my input into this forums cross functional, round table, group discussion.  We have thrown a few thing up on the wall so lets see what sticks, SWEET. :yep:

RJM.

Tracks: There are 201 tracks listed on No Grip, surely there's 10 in there that not everyone has have driven and would want to drive. Might I suggest these:

Willow Springs - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=9740 - I've seen this layout on 5th gear & Best Motoring (Japaneese video mag) and it's a challenging bit of tarmac.

Paul Ricard - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=10736 - Always wanted to try this. Dunno what it's like other than it's all tarmac with painted lines everywhere instead of sand traps.

Road One International - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=9483 - I've raced here before, great track.

Sandown - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=2102 - We'd be silly not to include at least 1 Ozzie track in the mix and this one would suit these big cars well.

2x tyre & 2x fuel might lure me back into the Lister again. I really do want to drive it on an even playing field.

gotta admire the enthusiasm and the new ideas guys.

My concern would be though is the majority of the guys are casual racers - hence "the home of casual gaming"

I'm thinking what has been proposed here goes beyond casual racing.  I like the idea of jumping in a car and driving - not worrying about cold and hot setups and so on.....

Go for it guys but the weather mod will exclude my system and a few others too I imagine.

I can see the OSJ GTR2 grids continuing to decline.

Keep it simple and the racers will show - look at the GTL races.....

I like the new track idea. Maybe the regulars should be responsible for finding, testing and recommending 1 track each?
 :think:

 :yep:

Ok, fair enough...go out all and find a track you like, test it and if  you`re sure it has no major problems (please also test in rain) then we could do it in four different ways:

Version 1:   First come first choice style

Every driver choose only one track. If his favorite track is already posted he has to choose a different one...
If there are more then 10 track posted then  Dammit, Nodnerb and me choose the 10 to be driven tracks out of all posted tracks  :think:

Version 2: The majority style

every driver chooses 3 Tracks for normal run and 1 Track for the Enduro..
The tracks with the most posts will be driven...if some tracks are even then Dammit, Nodnerb and me choose the remaining tracks  :?:

Version 3: The asshole style

Dammit, Nodnerb and me choose the tracks that we want no matter what the others wish...  :finger:

Version 4: The never mind style

Dammit, Nodnerb and FAR are the league-organizer...it`s their problem which track will be chosen...they wanted the job, so they have to do it now..  phwoar

So what do you like now???  :biggrin:

Have fun and post quick...

Willow Springs - http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=9740

I just downloaded & did a few laps here. Easy enough to learn the course. It's not very long and in the Fez a lap lasts about 1:07 so far. It's one to blow up the Vipers engine as it's all high grip sweeping bends, 1 straight and a couple of tightening blind corners. The track looks 1/2 finished mainly because the real one looks 1/2 finished.

Worth a look, but may not impress.

I might back Mario on the PR funky painted lines track.

Mid Ohio, never been here before, me that is.  This track flows, I liked it straight away, would be a great NGT track also.  Went out in me Imola setup in the Lambo, NOICE!   :yep:

Heavy on the frames but.

Barhain Shakir circuit is a ripper, I have raced there, it was great but I can't find a link for it.

Gave Paul Rickard a couple of laps,  thumbs up, dont know about  Willow Spring Cande, could be good.  Like ya said it looks unfinished and when ya run off the track there is plenty of grip for grass, fast but.

Ray.

Been thinking about this one a bit more....

- championship with about 10 rounds
 :yep:

I would like to see all in the same car or all in same strength cars...Lambo vs. F575 is such a selection)

I quite like Justins idea of adding 'quality' addons to the existing GT cars

- i would like to keep weight penalty
:yep:

- changeable weather...produced and simulated with the NAW-Mod which is already on the server...it simulates and changes weather during the sessions...including rain and changing ambient temperatures...

Definately and about bloody time too lol

- x2 tyres and x2 fuel

I like 3x tire wear, takes away fuel always being the pitstop factor

- race length min. 60 minutes
:yep:

- rolling start
:nope:

- 1-2 drop rounds
:yep:, but just 1, 2 is too many in a 10 run series

- 2 special runs: 1 Endurance run with double points and 1 Joker run with also double points.
(Joker-run means: the track and car will be unknown til 1.5-2 hours before the race... so it
will be a default car and maybe a default track. To make sure that we will not have an advantage, we could ask Ian to select the track and car for this race)

:yep:

- Hot-lap qualyfying
:yep: a short session everyone on track, max 2 flying laps, find your own gap :knockout:

- Tracks: we choose the best tracks out of the proposals at the forum...but it`s time to find some new tracks which aren`t so often used... :
:yep:

That`s a good compromise...qualy only 10-15 minutes so that you even can`t make enough laps...

To the addon cars..has anyone tested the db9 and c6 and compared it to the original GT cars??

Is it neccessary to adjust the race start time guys ?? Or stay we with the old race start time?

(I remember it was 8.30)

I?d prefer have an open GT class with possibly addons like the DB9, C6 or other cars that race in the real GT1 series providing they are similar in speed.

 :?: Has anybody found a DB9 or C6 addon??

 :think: I can only find car-skins for the C6 so far...or is that enough to create an additonal car??

speak soon so that we can include these cars for the fun run on sunday...

The Mod FIA GT 2007 has the C6 & The DB9 . Here's what you do to get them . (It help's if you can read French  , although I cant  & managed)_
 First , register with this link to access the files http://www.gtrgt.com/register-me.html

Download MOD FIA GT 2007 v1.0 by Spring64 and install
http://www.gtrgt.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=view&lid=371

carset championnat GTRgt 2007 v1.1 by Spring64 is a skin pack for this addon availiable from same site
http://www.gtrgt.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&op=view&lid=393

 Maybe If these files were up loaded to SJ , It may make things easier  :?:
 I'm happy to up load em if someone explains how too :)

Cooool!
I'm downloading now.

Gizmoto is going to make the download and will upload it on the server if it`s legal so that not everybody has to register there and has to understand french... rotfl

This is also the reason why there is nothing announced yet...Would like to test the car-differences too...

 :idea: How about making a C5 vs. C6 vs. DB9 vs. 575 fun run on Sunday...

Two sprint races without pitstops and all have to swap cars for the races...you have to drive the C6 or the DB9 in one race and the 575 or the C5 in the other... :poker:

So we should see if there is a big difference in cars and we all can test them a bit... thumbs up

Just an idea... :salute:

Erm , Another  couple of mod's I know of  & have tried are
ESR gt challange 2008
ESR porshe cup 2008
 Both available here http://www.download.italianracers.com/GTR2/Mods/

The eSR mods include the following:

* Aston Martin DBR-9
* Chevrolet Corvette C5-R
* Chevrolet Corvette C6-R
* Chrysler Viper GTS
* Ferrari F550
* Ferrari F575
* Lamborghini Murcielago
* Lister Storm
* Maserati MC12
* McLaren F1 GTR Longtail
* Saleen S7R
* Seat Toledo V12
* Viper Competition Coupe
* + skinpack includes about 50 fresh painted Porsche 996 GT3 RSR

 I done a few laps around Le Mans in the McLaren & it's a bloody missile on wheels! Might be a bit much though , having all these cars'/mods to install & I'm not sure if there legal. I did run a few SJ races with these mod's installed though.

Thanks for supplying links to some great mods that I didn't know about.

I downloaded and installed the gt pack which included extra car sets, but not the comprehensive list like the one above.

I also read internet discussion recently about a FIA GT 2006 mod pack that was released by a Japanese development team with unofficial help from Simbin. Do you know about this mod?

 Cant say I have heard of it. I only heard of the other Mod's when a Friend of Sj ,"Kampferas" From Kiwisim, held a Lemans 24 hour race With drivers driving two tanks of fuel worth, Saving the file & emailing to next bloke.  :)

 We tried out a few of the afore mentioned mods before picking a car :)
