unlock cars - new user for on-line?
« on: August 28, 2007, 10:46:14 am »
I'm an experienced GPL-er who is just starting GTL.

Looks like you are using GTC65 cars, I haven't unlocked these yet with my GTL user, and am enjoying the challenge of gradually unlocking cars/tracks.

Is there is any downside to creating a new user for on-line with all cars unlocked, while I carry on my current user for off-line?

Hi vandem

And welcome to SJ!

I'm afraid, if you use the Unlock All method, it seems to stop you being able to play the game through from the start, even if you create another user name.

It's a shame, but I don't know of a way around it.

Well, that's weird, cause I once had an account for off line and one for online (all cars unlocked) and it worked good?

So I think the idea you have should work, your current account for off line use and just create a new one (with that "cheat" file) to compete on line.  ;)

I've never tried it, but I'm sure Pete mentioned that his GTL off-line career was messed up (didn't start from scratch anymore) if he created a new player.

Not here.. I have a profile for single player without all unlocked and also one for multiplayer with everything unlocked. :)

Hey vandem

Not knowing the game (I play rFactor right now), what about another install? One unlocked, one not?

Nah theres no need for multiple installs..
I think what he has to do is just create a new profile with all the cars, and to make sure he wont mess the old user is to first take a backup of "GTL/UserData/Vandem" Folder.

Replace "Vandem" of course with the profile name you want to make sure that stays the way it is. (i hope the path is right, cant check it atm on this bloody laptop)

Thanks for all the replies.

I plan to join a few Sunday races.   I may not be fast (I'm normally in the back half of the field in on-line GPL) but can keep the car on the track.

I may start at the Glen or Road Atlanta, I know GPL versions of these tracks reasonably well, and IIRC only changes for current versions are a couple of chicanes.
