Good point Moti . Isnt the "realistic engine failure" a bit over board though? as In , don't engines etc pop a little too easy?

well that will even it out even more

and I agree if we are running we should run with the failures on - its all part of racing......

But you are assuming the top guys "rev" the engines more? We all have the same rev limit and i doubt others are short shifting.

I think you will find the for lack of better term "slower" guys rev the engines just as much and shift at the same points, The time that the faster guys gain is more under brakes and corner entry / exit which is done in the middle of the rpm range where it makes no difference to engine wear.

I doubt driver speed will make a difference to who gets an engine fail or not..

Yeah personally I think its not very realistic at all.
Unlikely to see a change with that one.

I agree... :yep:

I would also say that the opposite is more correct. The fast guys who control already all details of the cars and tracks, take also more care of the mechanical failures...they rev different than others, don`t use the engine-brake to much and so on...

This give them advantage in these things too...thats why they are so good.  thumbs up

How curious, I had the same thought!
I'll definitely try out the difference between 911, 911 'light and sweet' and 914.

For what it's worth, I did about 10-15 laps in some of the cars at Dijon GP. The order is by Rank record times

914;        1.31.005                                  (Rank record; 1.28.550)
Escort;    1.29.122                                  (Rank record; 1.27.750)
BMW;       not done yet                            (Rank record; 1.26.978)
Corvette; 1.29.227, more off track than on. (Rank record; 1.26.688)
RSR light; 1.29.036                                  (Rank record; ?)
RSR;        1.28.637                                  (Rank record; 1.26.128)
Capri;      1.27.568                                  (Rank record; 1.25.620)
Pantera;   not done yet                           (Rank record; 1.23.760?                                                               fast driver; 1.24.885)

 :)

Is there going to be a practice run tonight??

I'm keen for a few short races is ease the pain of trying to pick a car... which is now between the Vette/Pantera and now the Capri, I seem to be adding cars rather than eliminating them  :tut:

I guess the normal 8.30pm NZ time (+13GMT) is a good place to start.  We can just race or practice whatever up on the server  :yep:  :gtg:

i think i'm having mixed feelings now...

on the one hand i know i'm a pretty fast bugger, but generally always midpacker.. once i like a car i can make it fly.
Practicing with the boys this morning evening (for you lot) made the choice open up indeed.

I tried the TVR and loved it, i was pushing and was about 5 seconds off the pace set by Jack later i bettered my time but Riven set a 1.28 on dijon and i think so did Fryz... so TVR is slow but fun
i tried the 906 and allthough grippy with the setup i have it feels like i'm in arcademode most of the times, not enough fun and when i finally drift it i lose it bigtime.. 1.30 in that one
tried the 911, yes Cas.. you read it right.. tried it and even enjoyed it, thanks to your St.Jovite setup, i only lowered the first gear and upped the last 2 gears so it would red out at almost the end of  the big straight... 1.30 in that one, but still i had the trouble when ever the back end stepped out a certain number of degrees (about 25) i couldn't drift it back under control untill at a full stop.. i also upped the steeringlock to my favo 30.5 degrees in most cars..didn't touch anything else to desigrate your setup more Cas  :hats off:  it's a good setup m8.. real good, now i know why you love that 911 so much!
Tried the Escort, and allthough fast it was terribly unstable, tried a different setup and the stability came into place.. but it just felt like a bad guy was waiting around the corner with a baseballbat as i got to comfortable with it... 1.30 there as well..
Then i tried the Pantara... the one i was always scared of to drive... grabbed the only setup i had of it, which was basically what i used on the previous wheel.. so yes.. it's at least 1.5 years ago that i last raced the pantera, i upped the steeringlock and somehow everything fell into place as i made the first turn.... i'm no longer scared of it, and i know it's too darn fast for me beeing able to control it, but i think i want to give it a shot for this league... i know it can blow up in your face when not treated right, but i'm thinking with my driving that the tires wont last 7 laps so the times will drop and basically anybody driving a mini can and will overtake me in any corner..

So first choice would be pantera in ways of feel, second choice would be the tvr in ways of fun.. but not of safety (as if i'd want to outbrake anyone i'd have to be sure that gaps for overtaking stays open for at least 5 seconds as the brakes are shite!) and third would be the 911 in ways of beeing pretty much in control and having a smooth ride.     But all these options will fall as soon as i step out of bed on the wrong side. If i dont feel like it, any of the above mentioned testcars will feel like it's too much for me as i dont have the reactiontime for it at that moment, probably only after the races are done i'd be upto controlling it...      But summertime is coming which means the league will start at least 2 hrs later for me.

I'll probably take the escort. Its not the fastest in a straight line but has great brakes and is awesome fun to drive. Hopefully i dont turn lap times too quick in it...

I got a 1'28.mid for dijon in the short time i had... So if people cant get close enough to that, maybe i will have to pick another car.

Edit just tried a few more laps..
1'27.9.

Maybe too fast :(

 :)

I removed that 1:23.760, as that looks like a warp to me  :)

BTW: I don't think Dijon is the best track to compare the cars on as it's unilateral (even boring perhaps ), my suggestion for a 'test track' would be Hockenheim National (short and has different type of corners)
