Next season? No Dion. What to do? What to do?
« on: August 07, 2008, 08:35:49 am »
At the moment the next season is on the rocks. I did put my hand up for sorcerer's apprentice but the sorcerer is nowhere to be found! Dion is AWOL. Lured away by the sultry pleasures of i-Racing maybe.

Search parties have been sent out to scour all the bars and clubs in Queensland but no news so far. Dion is lost in action.

Do we want a Season 6?

Is there any plan for our time-slot next sunday??

Maybe a fun-run or mod-test-run?  :?:

I'm definately keen for another season, although it was nice to have a Sunday night off last week... also happy to help out a bit if needed :yep:

As for format, I would been to do the same again in the TC-65's, or if a change is on the cards a single make addon would get my vote?

Very sorry guys but im afraid at this point in time im unable to help much...

Dad my bros and I have just moved out into a renter as we have sold our family home, mum has moved 1100km away with another guy and ive been very busy moving and sorting out stuff. Plus im still working 6 days a week + a few parties and such. Add in the fact i dont actually have the internet setup at our new house yet (and its looking like at least a week away if not more) i cant even play if i wanted to. Very sorry for lettings yas down... This wasnt in the plans when i signed up! haha

I'll gladly give Jack the reigns and whom ever wants to help.

My ideas were to run TC65 with each car having a handicap of some sort before each race. For example if we run the points..

25 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 14 - 12 - 11 - 10 - 9 - 8 etc etc then depending what car you drive depends what you get...

say the alfa is points x .75 so if you score 20 points your handicap for the alfa is .75 so you actually get 15.. If you choose the mini and only scored 16 points, its handicap may be 1.0 so you get 16 points. So youd actually be ahead of the guy in the alfa. But say you picked the abart with a handicap of 1.1 and you scored 12 points youd then have 13.2 points.. etc

So you can take the alfa and score high but suffer in handicap, or you can choose a lower car and finish down the order but score well in the handicaps.

Can be confusing but i think its about the only way to give open choice of cars but still get a mixed grid. As im sick of being with the same car all season.

Handicap could work out to be, though this is a rough idea..

Alfa .75
Cortina .85
Falcon .90 (if races are short no tyre wear issues it could have .80 or so)
Mustang 1.0
Mini 1.1
Abarth 1.2
Jag 1.3

Anyway i can still be available via PM as i can check this site from work, but im not gonna be active anytime in the near future until i get the net sorted at home and stuff...

Sorry again guys

I believe its better to handicap the drivers, rather than the cars......

Perhaps stick to the 2 race format - Race 1 - Open Car choice but must use a different car each week.  Once on the server on race night no dropping out to change car......

Race 2: Handicapped season cars - with perhaps a few low end GTC65's available to us slower guys........

Both wonderful plans but I think the second one gets my vote.
Oh, there's no voting, sorry.

We had a great SJC season with 'use each car once' organised by Kristof and it worked very well.  :hats off:
The difference was, we had teams, so each team drives the same car (well, two of them) per race. Could be a nice addon perhaps?
A pretty exciting tactics game. Many of us have driven all available cars so it's not a super complicated thing.
I'm absolutely fine to add some GTC65 cars for people who want them. TC65 as base is great imo.

I just really would love to have another OSJ season with you guys.

Caspar.

Me I'll try anything but I like the idea of some driver handicap - based on last season I might do better if the rest of you were handicaped.   :knockout:  :salute:

Wow Dion sounds like a bit of a rough time there mate. Bin there done that, my mum ran off with the greengrocer from across the road (she must have liked Rege's Veges).

I have never run a league before, I guess you just PM one of the admins to set the server up and away you go. There seem to be lots of different ways of doing the points, I have no idea about that.

How about a fun run in the mean time to test one of the add on mods? The Toyota or Aston Martin come to mind.

I have recently rediscovered the joys of GTL - since downloading the new sounds for the various cars - just makes them sound so awesome.  Looking forward to running some 65's and since I will finally have a machine that can run the game properly I would like to see something happen sooner rather than later......

I have a proposed idea......

2 races per night approx 20 mins each race. Racing on our usual Sunday pm timeslot.

Race 1 - Single make race on a short track to promote super close racing. Perhaps an addon mod such as the Corolla's or the Mini Coopers to spice things up.

Race 2 - TC65 on a longer version of same track.  Open car choice - but you cannot use the same car twice -and you also cannot drop out of the server to change cars.

7 rounds as there are 7 TC65 cars.  Obviously you have to use each car once.

Tracks:

Magny Club / National
Mondello Short / Intermediate
Donnington Nat / GP
Anderstorp North / GP
Nurb Mullenbach / Sprint
Birmingham Club / Sprint - not sure on this has anyone tested for Online?
Dijon Short/GP

Mostly default tracks chosen as they are well known and should provide close racing.

Points - 25,24,23,22,21,20... and so on.  Should keep the season real close...  Only 1 drop round - however any races you dont attend counts as the use of the fastest of the cars you have not used (as determined by our resident gurus)

Question is who is still keen??  And Riven will you be able to graciously provide the local server for us to use again??

Right we need a suitable down under nightmare style track, so grossly over powered cars and a general lack of caution, anyone have any suggestions?  rofl

How about Mount Panarama (spelt that wrong I think) and all the old tracks that the Falcon raced on in those days.

In another league we successfully had a British Saloon Car Championship based on the 1966 Season using as near as possible those tracks eg Snetterton 64 and Silverstone 88.  Now we're lining up for a second run at it.
