Season 4 is coming
« on: September 22, 2008, 11:27:59 pm »
Well, with 1 race to go in the current season, it's time to talk about season 4!

Some ideas and changes, non of which are set in stone:
  • we will be using GPCOS, so everything will be there
  • the single races will be 50 minutes instead of 40.
  • in the sprint races, top 4 from race 1 cannot qualify for race 2
  • the season will be split into 2 parts, first half in NGT cars and the other have in GT cars
  • do not have to use the same car for each round of the season
  • season will compose of 10 rounds with 1 dropped round
  • 2x tire and 2x fuel for all races
  • final round will be 75 minutes
  • season should end a week before Christmas

What are your guys' thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I like everything suggested except the race lengths. Personaly, I enjoy the longer races less. It only seems to raise the attrition rate more. In our current races, at the end of the race everybhody is just cementing the position they are already in. Also in the sprint races, I would like to have the qualifying shortened, currently those rounds drag on alot.

I know you guys may not agree with me about this stuff, and it is not like I will stop racing if we adopt all the rules perposed, but personaly, I do not like how long the races sometimes get dragged out.

I like everything that's suggested, except for one small thing.  I'm not a big fan of 2x tires for the single race rounds.  Everything else is great.

I definitely like the longer time for the single races, and splitting the season up with 1 part GT and the other part NGT.  It's a nice compromise between simplicity and variety.  1 dropped round makes sense too.

I agree with Andy about making quali shorter for the sprint race rounds.

There's no mention of weight penalties so I assume we're not using them.  I like the idea of weight penalties, but it's no problem if we don't use them.  I don't think it slows the fast guys down much anyway.

Thank you very much for the comments!
I think we will make quali 10 minutes for sprint races and maybe all of the races, especially if we do extend the single race a little bit. Maybe we'll settle for 45 minute races. :)

About the 2x tire, I have been thinking about this and the only reason to have 2x tire wear is too kind of force a tire change when pitting, but maybe we'll go to 1x tire and let the tire changing decision be your. With a tad long race, we may want tires any ways because it might be too long to go the whole race on 1 set of tires. But still keep the 2x fuel rule.

And I am have mixed feelings about weight penalties. I certainly don't mind weight penalties. I think it is a good idea since there are many cars to chose from in the classes. If we do use weights, then after race 5 your weight penalty will be erased because of the new class we have to use for the second have of the season. What is everyone's take on weight penalties?

Yeah, I see what you're saying about 2X tires.  I sort of think choice of tire compound would be more interesting with 1X tires.  With 2X tires you almost have to change tires in long races even if you're using the hard compound.  With 1X you could choose softs and a tire change, or hards and no tire change.  I could be wrong though.  I would have to experiment with different tire choices before I could say for sure.

As far as weight penalties, if it adds more complexity, then it's probably not worth it.

I don't think the weight penalties did much to slow the faster folk down in season 2 as the usual suspects were the one's acruing weight and they were also the ones who finished in the top spots at the end of the series.  It just seemed to add more stuff for you to do.  Also one or two people stopped racing in the series once they had acrued weight.
