Next Season
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:01:45 pm »
Some things I wanted to talk about after the Watkins race, but didn't get a chance to were the following.

We will take a short break and probably start next season in July, most likely the 11th, 1 week after the 4th. I probably won't organize any fun runs, but you all are more than welcome to set up some fun runs. As some may know, looks like we will continue with bi-weekly events in conjunction with GTR2. However, we will be using P&G for GTR2.

For next season we will continue with the same format, ie: 5 single races and 10 sprint race, totaling 10 rounds. We will also be moving up a class to the GTC76 cars. All of those default cars will be available to use. There will probably be 3-4 drivers allowed for each car. Again I will need help on ideas for car and track combos for the 5 sprint race events and for tracks in general. I would like to continue using mostly NA tracks, but suggestions for tracks anywhere are welcome.

It has been my pleasure operating this league, but you all are the ones who make it great! Can't wait for another great season!

Working on which car will suffice my needs.  :innocent:

I don't really have suggestions yet on track choice other than to say perhaps ending the next season with Watkins, might kinda start a cool tradition.  :)

Just to clarify so everyone knows, only the default GTC76 cars will be available to use in the 5 single race rounds.

A race at Watkins would be great, but I think the enduro finale needs to be at Lemans 77 or 79.  In fact, I suggested Lemans for the GTC-65 finale, but Rocky said we should use it for the GTC-76's.  And I agree.

Yes, I arleady have that planned.
However, we could move the Le Mans enduro to the middle of the season and still finish the season at Watkins if we wanted, but just a 60 minute race. This would make the season mimic at 1970s WSC season a little more. I plan to start the season with Daytona and Sebring. Too bad there isn't a Targa Florio out yet. :)

Since the GT40 was too fast to use last season, would it be on par with this group?  :?: Still would like to have a race in the TR4s and maybe the Skylines at Fuji 70 if it's legal.  :D

Oooo... there's a nice idea.

Also, I know we're gonna run mostly NA tracks, but for the international rounds, maybe we could have a 'home race' for some of the makes of car in the 76 class.  Germany for the Porsche's and BMW, England for the Capri and Escort, Italy for the Pantera.  Am I forgetting any?  I haven't thought of which tracks yet, but I'll mull some more.

I had an idea about the car selection process... you can tell me if it's stupid...

Instead of making it first come first serve like we have up to now, I thought perhaps it should be done like draft picks in are done in hockey etc.  The last place team picks first sort of thing.  But in our case, we would use the results from last season.  I thought the fairest way to do it would be to base it on the drivers average points per round rather than total points because not everyone participated in each round.  And probably only drivers that completed at least 50% of the season should be included in that list.  The picks should of course be in reverse order of the ranking.  I'm not sure about everyone else who didn't complete 50% of last season, or new drivers, they could either just pick whatever they want, or choose from whatever is left.  Whatever they want would probably be fairest.  I went to the liberty of putting together a spreadsheet with the points per round for everyone who did at least 50% of last seasons races.... Yeah I know, I have too much time on my hands lol.  I think it's accurate, but if you spot any mistakes then definitely point them out.

The Skyline versus something else at Fuji 1970 would be great! And we'll probably have a couple of Italian cars plus a British car against each other at Monza (default version).

That is very interesting Peter! It isn't stupid lol but I will think about using it. I also had an idea of everyone PMing me 3 cars that they would want to race and then I would try hard to get everyones what they wanted, but I thought that it might get too complicated. I think for the sake of continuity from the past 2 seasons, we will continue with first come first serve. Also, if anyone wants a car that is already taken, you can always discuss with each other about it. Once you select a car you are not stuck with it for the entire season.

The schedule should be posted soon, probably early next week. Then I will post the GTC76 car selection thread in about a week from now. This will hopefully give everyone some time to look at the tracks for the season and post a car about two weeks before the season will start. We should start the season on July 11.

Not a bad idea at all Peter. Only problem I would have with it is like the hockey draft what happens if you get drafted by Tampa Bay when you really want to play in Boston or Montreal? Holdout?  lol
For example, I have a thing about the Capri. Any other GTC76 car is fine, but I can't stand driving the Capri. It wouldn't be a car I would ever choose no matter how fast or slow it was. I like what Rocky said about not getting strapped down with a car all season. I wouldn't want someone to not participate because their car choice wasn't fun for them.

Haha, yeah good point.  But in my case the situation would be reversed.  If I picked the Pantera, the car would hold out for a better driver.

About the Capri, the reason I suggested this method would be so the aliens such as yourself wouldn't end up with something as fast as the Capri.  So if you ended up with one, then some retooling of the system would definitely be required.  But of course I do see your point.  It's no fun if someone is stuck with a car they hate.  There are probably better ways to level the playing field a little bit.  I like Rocky's idea of pm'ing him your top 3 car choices.  That would probably work very well.

My solution to that is the gentleman's agreement. :) Everyone picking a car that is suitable to their speed. For example I think I will be taking an Escort. This is something I would like everyone to do, but it is not really enforced, just encouraged, to make better racing.

Oh, and there will be 4 drivers per car this season, so that should leave things open a bit.

Agreed.  :) I was thinking of the 906 at first but after checking out Forsythe's excellent rankings thread, that car is probably a bit fast. I'm leaning towards either the slower 911 or slower CSL.

Ya, I think I'll be trying to get the low powered CSL, I enjoy driving it the most so far.

I'll give the low 911 a try too, rear engine cars can be fun!
