iRacing.com - VW Jetta TDI Cup Announced

iRacing.com has announced a new partnership with Volkswagen that will soon allow iRacing subscribers to compete in the virtual version of the VW Jetta TDI Cup starting season 3 2009.

All members with a Rookie 4.0 or higher competition license are welcome, fighting not just for points and honor but something more exciting. Once the season is over, the top ranked drivers which meet the VW Jetta TDI Cup requirements (age between 16-26 and North American/Mexcio resident) will receive an invitation by Volkswagen of America and get their chance to prove themselves in a real VW Jetta TDI Cup race car.

Volkswagen will be selecting 30 drivers to compete in the real-life 2010 season and should the iRacing qualifier be among them, his/her full season will be paid for!

The partnership does not end there as iRacing will become the primary gateway to the Driver Selections event for the 2011 VW jetta TDI Cup season. This will give talented sim racers the chance to prove that they arenít just quick behind the wheel of a virtual car and that real driving talent can be found in the sim racing community.

I read about this race series (the real one) in a magazine.  They are seeking real rookie drivers to take part in an actual spec race series.  It's cool they are using iRacing as another way to find talent.

Ages 16-26... that's RockyC and who else?

Go get em!

Enough reason to move across the pond or to get swine flu? Meh..
It's a nice idea though from that series organization to team up with iRacing. Wasn't there a simracer who got into the real life Legend Cars via iRacing?

Anyone who has bit of money can race Legends Cars :)

I think all the SJ members that are eligible are Rocky, Adam Gerkitz(Ace_Racer), and me. At least that's all the North Americans who play it and meet the age requirements.

Not to bring anyone down or harass iRacing, but it shows yet again that even though this is shipped and played all over the world, it is aimed for Americans.

I have said it all along. American cars, american tracks and well, this is just another nail in the box.

It's an American based series. You expect them to ship a driver back and forth for an entire year to run a support series?

I could get into a brawl here now, but ya know what I mean Goose. I think it is great if some get a chance of life to do this....

Ah never mind... I will not get into anything here.

One of the main reasons I haven't any interest.

The TDi though, now THAT might get me more interested. Been a fan of the series since it's inception.

Does this mean they will add some European/etc tracks?

I doubt it because

It's an American based series.

I'd get into the closet, Jarkko, a straight G25 drives a lot better I think.
