Good times all you rookies lol  I am humbled.  Did some TT's to up my SR and finally saw a best time of 1:04 with LR/solstice.  The new gearing seemd slower but once you get used to running 4th gear for most of the course, me thinks the new solstice is faster at least at LR.

Had some fun close races with this combo as well including one finish which I almost snagged the position at the finish line.  Backed off 3 corners from end and really planned on maximixing exit speed and it almost worked.

Managed to drop my Rookie Solstice @ Lime Rock 8 lap average to 1.04,2.. :)
Puts me on 16th position.. gotta wait till the session ends though to see my name up there me thinks?

EDIT:Hmm it shows in "Time Trial Results" but not in "season time trial".
Me wants my points!
lol

EDIT2:Was driving an amazing race, leading.. then some lapped traffic spun and rammed right into me, completely wrecked my car.. :(

I did some last night, first impressions were ehr...do you need to be the hulk to use FFB? I have 101% set in windows, and am down to 4 in game using a dfp. Feels OK now, guess I like mine on the light side. Then I felt the front was scrubbing so much and I re calibrated the steering which helped that, so now the car was feeling good and I could get down to business. I found it to be a rather gutless, somewhat heavy pig that likes to over steer if you aren't up on it. Hey, just like my car! :) I was quite impressed with it really, fun little car to drive. Did some testing around all the tracks and then decided to have a go online qualifying. Got going with a dozen or so others on track, did my out lap and then someone jumped out of the pits and straight in front of me in the braking zone, managed to avoid them by the narrowest of margins, but then got punted mid corner. Nice, 2 laps and already my car is wrecked. :( Got back to it and did an OK lap of 1'04.7, not my best but it will do. I did notice some very slight stutters during the quali session which continued during the race. Next race I started 3rd, judging from quali times it should be an interesting race. We set off and I was disappointed to see two cars connect and put each other off turn one. I ended up in 2nd and was about 3 seconds behind the leader for most of the race with a car behind slowly closing. The last five laps looked like they would be interesting, the leader got held up in traffic and I closed the gap to under a second. We had a three way battle going for a while, then I finally got around at the first turn. Shortly after my game stuttered badly, locked up for several seconds. I couldn't see anything, only hear my car sliding across grass, gravel and then impacting something, then something again very hard, then more very loud crashing noises. When the stutter ended, I was flipping end over end and over the wall. When it stuttered the game kept my last input, which was WOT and a slight right turn, sending me into the wall on the right, back onto the track and p2 hit me, flipping my car violently. To top it off, this was on the second to last lap. :(

Somehow my ratings went up anyway, so OK that's fine! On to the next race, I started 4th and witnessed another t1 crash, narrowly avoiding being collected I tried to keep my head and keep the leader in sight, he had a couple seconds lead now and I was closing in the opening laps. Racing with the car behind me on my tail, he tries to make a pass turn one and locks a wheel up, smacking me and causing us both to spin. I get right back on track and see if I can fit my hand out the window netting to flip him off. Now back to 4th I start charging hard to make up the ground I lost and find myself in an excellent battle for 3rd. A good 5 laps of following someone right on their bumper, but not enough to pass and I didn't want to try to out brake in turn one since I wasn't comfortable enough with the brakes to know I wouldn't lock them and cause a crash. I got lucky and he put it into the grass after turn 4, so I could cruise right by. Now I had 5 laps to make up 5 seconds on the leader. Hmm..yeah right, the stutters were back too. 2nd is a very good finish, cruise control on, don't spin it! This paid off and some lap traffic helped to close the gap, as he started to push harder to keep me off his tail he did a very kind thing. Pulled right off the track turn one (facing backwards for some reason) and just let me by.

So far I like the game, but I have no idea why would it stutter only online? whether there is a car near me or not it does this, no matter the video settings on high or low. Frame rates don't change, it just stutters and I head a crackle/blip in the sound (like when someone keys their mic on/off fast in vent) Going to look further into that problem because it seriously hinders the online experience.

Alarmed Bread...what is your ingame FFB set at. Probably shouldn't be more than 8-12 in iRacing. Try that and see if that works.

OK I fixed my stutter by putting the frame limiter back on 51fps. All good now! (except I just got wrecked out of a race :( )

hmm....i have to say, after a couple of hours at it...get bumped off track n penalised for it, i'm not to impressed to be honest. Not to disimpressed either ( is disimpressed a word)  :?:
it isn't much better than what i have played before...if better at all,  FFB not that good for me.

My 'first' thoughts to, after all the hype I found the whole experience a bit disappointing, sure the physic's feel good but beyond that I don't think there is enough new stuff here to convince me to lay down more cash to buy the Skippy and to keep renting this game.  At the end of the day laser scanned tracks and cars, are just tracks and cars.

Only day 1 of 30, so it's highly likely my opinion will change...

I had a great race in Rookie Solstice, full race pushin hard, made a pb 1.03,7.. another Finn following me really close.. then last lap... lapped traffic simply blocks me and the other guy gets right on my bumber.. then i fail the exit of last corner.. and the bugger passed me! But it was cool.. ive taken few wins here and there and also got some decent results on qualifys and time trials.. Ive done both Rookie and Advanced versions of Legends and Solstice today.

Has anyone else noticed how smooth it is to lap on the limit?
I mean, the feel of cars is so good that its not too tough to make time trial results with
the average lap time being only 0,1-0.2 off your pb.. Same goes for racing.. i also love how the drag effect works, never had as much fun in a game trying to maximise my performance.. Sad to notice how much faster guys there are allready though, yet when it goes public there will be even more..
But its of course great to battle for top50 time trial etc. positions, but i feel this game has lot of potential to improve my driving to the next level. It propably will take lot of time and practice but im sure its doing lot of good for my driving..
Yes.. im definitely loving iRacing.
lol

Now all we need is more cars that appeal to european tastes.

well...i have been playing this all week and i am now at the unimpressed stage...i'm afraid  :yep:

1st of all....it's not a new race sim, it's a re-work of a 10 years old GPL code and now that i have played both games i can see that. it's just a touch up on a 10 years old game and didn't papyrus try subscription gaming 10 or so years ago too? dunno not sure

2nd i play all week on a rookie basis and i get my 3.0 in road at lime rock...sick of feckin lookin at that track, so i can use the advanced solstice...wtf is advanced about it  :dunno:...you can change toe in and tyre temps  lol

and to top it all off..i go to play advanced solstice last night and it's on f*ckin lime rock, sod that seen enough of that track.

so i go to advanced legends...it's the same, you can mess with tyre temps and toe in, oh a new track...woohoo, check it out and it's another tiny boring half mile oval...can't even remember what it was called.  :nope: man was i pissed...shut it down and went and played Rfactor  :yep:

:sorry: but i don't like to be dictated to what track i can race or car for that matter...it's like any other public server too..it called rookies so guess what you come across a lot of....yep, you guessed it ROOKIES...which for me is ok, i don't really mind, others might though.

i do understand why people like the game though...it can when u first get it be quite addictive, i also feel it is totally aimed at the american market, cars and track wise although... that i guess will change if it continues to grow and more content added.

At this stage in the month...only a week into it, i would not be renewing it, no, no, no  :nope:
my view may change by the end of the month, i doubt it...but it might  :dunno:

i am however still slightly confused by the game...i like some things about the game and don't like others, i guess i will just wait till end of my month and weigh up the pro's and con's of it and decide then.

:sorry: i only complained in last post  :tut:

there are some good things about it too....i like the whole interface thingy set up, once you figure out how to use it, the stats and stuff are good. i don't really give a shit about all that kind of stuff but...for people that do, it's excellent.

the tracks are excellent very well done indeed  thumbs up the cars also look nice and are well done
the game runs smooth and not a glitch in sight...which is always good  :yep:

all being in the same car is good...and making a mistake is bad...very hard to catch up unless mistakes are made.

all in all i would say it's a pretty good game. i'm just not sure it's my type of game. it is a game though not a simulation imo  :salute:

Everything we play (GTL, rF, Race07, ...) are simulation games imo, I don't see any difference with iRacing.

except it costs a lot more Kristof :)

man a few people are taking it very seriously, i got a puncture at laguna on the 2nd last lap ( must be my wayward driving style), so was try to type a message to tell people behind me, that i was a hazard, roflol, clipped a guy at the corkscrew by accident and he got well upset, apparently i cost him 3 damage points, like in the long run that will make his life so hard.

i think the points system / control system, is not working how it was intended, i have seen a post saying if you think your going to spin, drive of the track it costs you less points, if i spin when i know i'm not going to hit anyone and stay on the track i think that is control.

Ive almost maxed out my safety ratings, and have more than enough to race on now. :)
The point of dictating what you can run is the fact that its supposed to be a competition, rather than a regular simulation. You still can practice any combo you like. I guess i will list my likes and dislikes.

+++++Gooooood++++++

Quality of tracks
Quality of cars
Quality of the whole system (works supersmooth, and is very well thought out)
Racing (ive had as many great battles during these 4 days as i have on my whole "career" before i Racing)
Overall attitude of people
Constant development
Dictating what you can race (Youll learn better, and have better races that way)
Safety rating system (sometimes not perfect, but of course it needs compromises to exist, top notch)
Physics (theres no other game that you feel the car better in, or feels more immersive)
Statistics (im a stat freak)
Price (Its not too much for this kinda quality service and content, our money makes it possible for them to add more content, and develop it constantly)
Web site based interface (You pick a session, see when it starts.. you browse the net or whatever  while waiting.. then just hop straight to the session..)
Graphics (the tracks have very nice amount of objects etc. Its not eyecandy, more like realistic look which really appeals to me.. and its not very heavy)

-------Baaaaaaad-------

Some features not yet implemented (blue flags and few others are still on their way)
Lack of adjustments (controls etc. need bit more options)
Unrealistic input methods allowed
More cars and tracks for european tastes needed (Yup.. its too American atm)

Well, just to have a say.

The game is good. Physics is good. Feel is good.

Playablility, well. I think this will be boring for me in a short matter of time. I hope to god I am wrong.

I think I need more addons and NOT american addons.
I love everything about touringcars and Le Mans. Not sure if I ever gonna see that in iRacing.
I have only had 3 official races. 2 oval legends and 1 soltice laguna. The feel of everything is very nice.
I like the UI online thingy though. works fine. and NO Alt+Tab when you wanna do stuff.

I just hope there will be more variety when the game is finally going public. If not I am afraid that after a while, it will be more and more americans and less and less european guys in there.
Not saying this to diss the americans, but it just is not what I would like to drive.
Really not many US road tracks I find to appeling either. And definately not if you compare to european tracks.

But again. It is a good start, I just hope they spend our money wisely. VERY wisely.

The penalty thing sucks...
I managed to overtake someone during the final lap. Next braking zone he smashes into the back of my car.
I can just avoid spinning but I had to slow down because I had cut the track. The "gentleman" re-passed me so with that move he actually gained a position. Very nice  lol

I was just thinking that last night, I am going to commit to the skippy this season and possibly next and I can see where this will eventually get old.

Now if they could add all the GTL type cars, heck if they only added an alfa and cortina I would be happy.

All that being said, I can see where it is making my driving better as you just cant get away with things like you can with other sims at least IMHO.  I feel like I get into the 'zone' more in this game as driving at the limit is more involving to me.
