iRacing Needs Polishing
« on: August 09, 2008, 09:36:06 pm »
please note - i've changed the thread name from iRacing Sucks to

well, i just can't say how poor the game interface is

man it's shocking

i'm also sorry to say that i don't care what anybody says, the interface for this sim sucks

i'm not saying the sim sucks but man, it sucks

i have a load of other stuff to say but i'll not say it now as i'm sure others will tell you how good it is.

think the interface must have been designed by a MAC user or something.

So the subject should have been : iRacing interface sucks? I think it's OK, but it's a personal issue of course
What do you think about the driving itself? (which is far more important imo)

interface

the way you pick, what you race, the track you race and the car you race.

driving , well there is not that much in it between the historic X (HGT mod)  rFactor mod and that road car and netkar pro F2000 is better than that barber car.

in fact iRacing is rubbish using the G25 with the full 900 degrees of wheel travel for the G25 it's better with 400.

i might be being a bit OTT on iRacing but i'm just telling it as i see it

Well, i like it.. find the system very good, nice physics with some really fun cars and very nice racing.
:)

Its different, but then again the whole concept is different from other games.

I've only done a few TEST sessions so far, but I like the driving apart from the brakes on the Solstice. They are VERY sensitive and lock up too easily.  :-|

As for the interface, I found my way to test sessions and customizing my car paint, helmet, and suit easily...But, I can't seem to find my way to time trials, practice, etc.  thumbs up

I'm probably missing something really obvious, but...I'm lost.   lol

I tried 900 degrees of wheel rotation at first, and it was OK in the Solstice, but I didn't like it in the '34 Ford Legends car. I've since set my G25 back to 450 degrees of rotation, and it's fine. It also saves me from having to change it JUST for iRacing, since 450 degrees is what it's set at for everything else I race...GTL, GTR2, rFactor, RACE07... :nose:

I was a beta tester for iracing. That was one thing i found confusing and griped about. It wasnt very intuitive of what+ where to click. I finally figured it but by then the frustration level was up.

I think that's a problem with the G25 pedals, just like I have. The brake pedal  is way too sensitive and Dave (I think) told me that they don't got a fix for that issue right now.

Dave told me that, when you are in the pits (before going on track), just depress and let up on the brake a couple times.  He says it fixes it 99% of the time...And it seemed to work for me last time out.   :)

Personally i think the UI is the best i have seen. The whole members site is really easy to navigate too and looks good. I am having trouble getting my g25 feeling good and my braking is really bad at the moment cos i have the nixim rubber thing fitted... but once i get everything sorted i think i'll be spending a lot of time with this sim.
I still haven't raced but like i said in a previous post... whats the rush, and the customer service is fantastic... i wanted to change my racing name so emailed them. It was sorted within an hour and with personal emails too.

So there you go... i like it and haven't even raced.   the solstice is still sh1t though
It handles like a dog on lino  rofl

Well the interface is different, at first I HATED rfactor's UI and menu system, but once I got used to it I found it works well, same thing with this. I tried to keep an open mind about it and have found it to work well. There are some options missing that you have to go looking for in your  documents/iracing files, but what sim doesn't have that 'problem'? It would be nice to see more 'on the fly' adjust ability like LFS has and they are missing some very important adjustments in the controls area (you can use a profiler for this though). The website aspect works very well, but it is a double edged sword in that if my internet is down I can't even practice without connecting to their server. The game certainly could use more polishing for me to be willing to pay a premium price for it, and if they demand a premium price I expect a premium product. EVERYTHING had better be perfect. Ofcourse I forget about all of that when I'm able to have a good race once an hour or more. :)

It's still a refreshing change from other online experiences which are very unstructured (good and bad) and most of the time if you want to find a race, you have to go download mods and tracks and by the time you got those the race is over and the next one is at another track you don't have. You can always do a test session while you wait, but towards the end of a couple days I admit to being sick and tired of driving this car on that track, but at least I knew it and could have a fun race instead of trying to learn a car and track in 10mins before race.

Well, i have had alot of fun with iracing. And like Alarmed said, there is some getting use to with the interface, but i mean it is a new game, they will tweak it i am sure. The legends are almost spot on to real life legend cars, and yes the soltisce does suck, but look at it this way. When you buy new cars, you can pretty much find a race every hour, or a time trail session, or just about anything. I am sure the times will be decreased, since it is still in a beta mode. But each person will have there own feelings about it. There are others who think paying for it is crazy, and perhaps there right. However i will say that it is a whole diffrent machine from rF and GTR2, and one i am enjoying very much.
