WHAT.... i'm serious Stieny,   :tut:  as we are down under I have to put my digital recorder upside down so I can watch races from the northern hemisphere.....too hard to balance the TV that way.... lol

Strange but true, CRT tubes made in the northern hemisphere have to be turned upside down in their casing to function correctly in the southern hemisphrere, due to the difference in polarity of the earth's magnetic field.

That sounds suspiciously like an old wives tale to me Lee...  so I had to do some research random googling.  Seems there's some controversy here.  But this report suggests there can be some adverse effects, but not quite turning the tube upside down!

well having just recently degaussed a TV given to me by a mate, i have extensively researched the subject of magnetic fields. it seems some tubes are more sensitive than others. my particular TV didn't like being moved just 15 mile further south from where it ha been sat for 7 years. cant remember where i read it, but it said most of the tvs made in Asia for the northern hemisphere are sent with the tubes upside down as they are calibrated in the south. its also the reason some of the crt monitors come with a degauss button.
is that Mr Jacksons bubbles when he was a baby?

 And do ovals race the other way in RHD markets? And RHD in the southern hemisphere? Is that why we call 'em tintops? Um....I'm confuselled now..lol

   Alfatina is a blast and a great place to meet SJer's. For me (NA pdt) being gassed @ 4 in the afternoon took some getting used to but I am persevering.  lol

Re the Alfatina, I have yet to master the "spirit's" of the event by getting plastered at 9AM, but the rest of the guys have come to allow being half asleep as a fair compromise.  :D
