Ventrilo - Push to talk ??

A nooby question about Ventrilo. Do you have to use the Push to Talk button option with the latest version?
I've re-installed Vent on my new PC and used the latest version. When trying to test it under setup, I can only get it to work if I select and set a PTT button.
If I recall previously, I'm sure I used to use Vent here without having to push a button to talk. In TeamSpeak you can simply set a volume level where your voice is automatically detected.
No doubt PTT is safer in case I utter the odd profanity unexpectedly (eg when Steiny spins in front of me  :D ) , but it also means having to allocate a Wheel button that I use for other things.

I seem to not find the volum set to activate myself, so I think push to talk is your option.

thats what I have always used though......

The biggest drawback of Ventrilo is voice activation. It's almost impossible to get that to function right, while in TS it's just a matter of a few minutes to get it right.  :hmm: I guess you have to learn to live with it  :D

We could raise the old Ventrilo vs. Teamspeak fight again.  :)  I just paid the Vent bill for next month though.  So we've got time to fight it out. lol

I've got it to work on voice activation simply by unchecking the 'use ptt button' and knobing about with the sensitivity button. Like Kris said though, it's a bugger to get right... get it wrong and every burst of flatulence is broadcast around the globe :)
