Thinking of buying a sound card...

Wondering what some of gurus would suggest as a good upgrade over on board. I was looking at this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006.
This is about as high as I would like to go on the price range as well(including rebate). Looking to up the sound quality while taking some of the load off of the cpu.

I would like one of the Xonar's to test how good they are, however I almost always use onboard sound as it's ok these days on decent mobo's.

Okay, I'll bite.
I know my onboard sound was sorta okay but when using headphones turned to maximum made whiny noises and also made noise when I'd move my mouse.
So I finally gave in and got a
Diamond Xtreme XS71DDL
Took me a wee bit of work to get it working as the driver for it SUCKED!! I updated it from their site and it's been fine ever since.
