Googleupdate unscheduling
« on: May 21, 2009, 07:50:23 pm »
Hey guys,

ever since i've installed Mozilla firefox with the "googleupdate" thingo, i've been having a program in my services as of late that has given me problems.

Upon the "googleupdate.exe" running in my taskmanager and me stopping the program under:

Control Panel->administrative tools->services (scroll down untill you see Googleupdate, and right click, properties, turn it off.. )

i thought the program would have been stopped..  but it wasn't... it popped right back up again.

with problems i mean it trying to update itself, allowing itself (not me) access to internet and handing me out Disconnects during leagueraces... which anoyed the crap outtof me... everytime a leaguerace is about to start now i alt-tab back to desktop, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click task manager.... and browse through the list if i saw googleupdate... it was there 9 outtof 10 times... i might have screwed something up in the install back then, but very certain i am not about this "fact" as i usually watch like a hawk for tickboxes.

So now i did a googlesearch.. after i was pissed off that it accessed the internet and gave me a bloody BSOD!!

here's the answer:

it's a scheduler!

do a search on your harddrives for "Googleupd*" ... one of the things that pop up will (hopefully not) be a agenda type logo.....

right click it, properties... set it to update only ONCE A MONTH... .. it wont be completely gone... but i cant say thruthfully that i'll have my computer on on the 1st of next month at 7.48 am.......

Best of luck to you out there... i love google.. but this is like a hidden virus, at least.. it's safely "telling me" that it's downloading stuff to keep my browsing safe...  yet i ... dont like stuff that intervenes wtih other programs.

best of luck, hope it helped some of you out there

If the updater is not required Steiny you can look to see if there is a service installed also.

Start\Run\services.msc

if there is a service for the googleupdater stop it and set it to disabled.

Did that already but somehow it's gone past that and still has the updater enabled as it showed up at about every reboot... sometimes i'd turn it off and it would return by itself within hours again (as i haven't payed attention at the timespan.. i'm not that parano├»a, that i have to check every minute.. )  just frustrated the hell outtof me when getting disco'd during a race or funperiod  and finding out it's updaterelated.

and as i sayd.. hope it helps somebody

Check the Prefetch folder maybe also, could be a file in there vetoing your command...  :dunno:

And yes, any information regarding programs and computers I consider useful :)

yeah I had this also, not that I had any discos or BSOD's. I think I just deleted the start entry with ccleaner
