Can't get PC to Boot from CD

Hello Tech-no-Dudes!   :hats off:

I'm trying to load xp on my machine from CD but the system is locking up.

I'm fairly tech savvy, and, yes, I went into the bios and changed all of that to boot off of the cd instead of the hd.

Also, I have several cd's that are bootable, and they all lock up.  It gets to the loading cd driver, does that, and then locks up, doing what seems to be looking at drivers for the mo board.

Also, I've tried the cd drive in all spots, 0-slave, master, 1-slave, master, after changing the jumper.  The hard drive in the system is an sata drive, which it boots up to, if I want, 2 sticks o' 512 ram.

i had a similar problem last year with an older PC, one fix i read was take all ram bar 1 stick out. that works for some but not all.
 the one that worked for me was hitting F5 repeatedly while its loading all the drivers.
 takes you to a menu at the end with two choices. select the default one and hay presto no lockup and xp installed.

do you have 2 cd/dvd drives, if you do, you might have left another disc in the other one !

sometimes you need 3rd party drivers, but not for cd's, so that should be fine for a cd drive

you could try setting bios not to stop on any errors

make an old floppy boot disc, boot from that then run setup or install on the cd

unplug the sata HD cable, then boot from cd, then put the sata back in, is sata hot swap - you better check first

the answer might be none of the above, but it might help.

Thanks a bunch, gents.  I will try when I get home from the salt mine.  Lee, I do believe removing one of the memory banks will fix the problem, as I seem to recall it working before when I only had 512mb, and good to have you back!
