 Phew.

Just did 10 laps of Goodwood. Oh I know, you guys could wipe the track with my 1:42 in the Abarth but this is more laps than I got to do ALL week! WHEEE!!!!

 So.

It was the Damn RAM. But now I got 2 GB. YAY!!! :burn him:

Now, as the point of having this stuff is to play, I must wander off and see if I can get a version of Goodwood for GTR2. What a fun track!!

(Um, I say that about ALL the tracks don't I?  lol)

yup, ram will do that. the auto detect settings for that ram must of been wrong. dicking with ram timings is a pain in the ass.

Thats good news Dent, now don't forget your bartenders  :bar&grill: (Jarkko/Dave/and others that have been reading this PC horror story) and get yer arse on track, no more fiddling with the ram and all, put key in ignition and floor it!  thumbs up

What Kevin said.  :ner ner:  Oh...And, don't worry about having "only" 2GB of RAM.  It should be more than enough. (in XP)  :)

So last night. Played a lotta laps of Silverstone, 5 am, raining. COOL!!

Thought today I would play GTL and GTR2. Fired up GTL and.....

1 1/2 laps of Silverstone and error message and shut down!

 BLOODY GO***** F****!!!!

Anyways, did it 2 more times, same result.

 Sooo....

Went back into bios, found the fsb stuff. reset the GPU back to 3 Ghz. (Buh-bye overclock, hahahaaaa) and found a default setting for the RAM stuff. (F6). Hit it, indeed see changes, and reset the above mentioned setting "Auto detect PCI/DIMM Clk" to disable again and...

I guess this stuff happens when you buy a PC used that's been modded. Ah well. Learning more than I really wanted too!

 Now, to DRIVE!!!!!!

Seems to FINALLY be working again!

Things like that can easily happen with new stuff too, for example i have to set the memory timings manually. Theres so many possible combinations of hardware that there will always be some problems and issues you gotta learn to sort out.

I think the worse feeling is just as you think you HAVE IT, you're doing a buncha laps, grinning that "I got it I got it EEHEHEEHEEEE!!!" slightly psychotic grin and BLAMMO!! The whole show comes to a grinding crashing heartbreaking halting crash.

Then it's the "I'm gonna take this piece of shit and throw it out the motherlovin' window" feeling. Beseps, I live in the basement.......  rofl rofl rofl

Though I will say, the feeling of getting it right after all the crap is pretty nice also. thumbs up

And it don't hurt to know the kind of support I have here (SJ) is there either. It definitely makes it all more tolerable.

Now how do I load this Damn set of tracks? I originally opened it and put each track folder in locations but when going to the track ended up on desktop. What'd I do wrong?

Hey Den,

I downloaded the track pack too just now to see what was up. I think I know what went wrong.
The track folders are all in extra subfolders, I think you put in the folder one level too high. You were supposed to go into the folder and inside you would again, find a folder with the name of the track. Put that one in your locations folder and it should work.

What I always do to make sure this doesn't happen is this. I will extract a track, see a folder after it is done and go into that folder. Usually there is another folder inside it with the trackname. I will again go into the folder. If I see that there are separate files inside the folder, more than just one readme alone, actual trackfiles, I will know that this is the folder that I need to put in the locations folder. So, I go back up again one level and copy that folder which has the files in it and paste it in my locations folder.

Good luck.

I discovered I did that with the Goodwood track in GTL and when I did thought "I GOT IT!!!" but of course...LOL

I know when I did this, I separated the tracks by name but maybe there's different versions and I didn't go that far. I'll try again. Thanks Tysie. This also tells me I was doing it right lately! Heehee.

Yup. I know what I did now. I did as you said above but for Silverstone hadn't taken the individual tracks out. Works like a charm now! YAY!!!!!
