 Maybe not..

It was working fine for the last hour. Started a race in the game. After doing practice, Qualy, did about 6 laps and it crashed.

Louie ("S" Interceptor) gave me some tips and a download to search the problem. Will try later but for now will turn the settings back down in GTL and try try try again! Hahaha.

I THINK I may have gotten somewhere after ALL DAY today also!

Since my last post I have lost track of how many times I wapped between the 2 cards, cleaned, defragged, installed, blah blah blah...

Let's just say it's started DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!

I tried to get on the Alfatina but could only do a lap or so and then less before crashing. The game not me. (For once!)

 Soooo........

This has been making NO sense to me.

Just a few minutes ago as it had gotten to the point that I couldn't even get on the Alfatina server without crashing, I had a really stupid and weird idea....

I was using gpuz to look at my specs thingies. Than cpuid to look at everything else. I'm sure the 2gb of RAM I put in were supposed to be dual channel. Says so right on it but cpuid says I have single channels (working anyways???)

So, I figured, What the Hell, I tried everything else and took a stick out.

Weird. Just did 4 laps of Goodwood and NO crash! Seems to be smoother too but I could be imagining that.

Anyways. Makes no sense, could be another false hope but going to see how it is in the morning and if GTL don't crash gonna start re-installing GTR2 and cross the old fingers!!

 Phew.

It might be time to post your settings, from the gfx drivers, launcher and ingame settings.

not that it should matter but what PCU(powersupply) do you have?
Does other games work ok when you up your setting on a demanding game?

What's a launcher?

Strangely, it's working now, on less RAM!

Looks like one of your memsticks is faulty, or not working well with each other.

Launcher is the app where you choose resolution with GTL.

Oh, okay, I have it at 32 bit 1024 x 768 and DX7. The screens are currently at 1024 x 768 also. I was swapping all the above between there and 800 x 600 with no difference.

As to the above question, the PSU is now a 650 watt, used to be 250. Plenty of power, doesn't even get warm. Sleeping giant as I planned. LOL.

Seems the RAM is the problem.

Is it possible I should have got single channel? My first thought when I thought oif removing one was to switch them position to position but figured that made even less sense! But I find PCs often don't!

How many memory slots your motherboard has?
Are the RAM exactly same type?
If you have 4 mem slots try to put em so that on first and third slot.

 It's only got 2 slots.

RAM is the same as I bought it as a pair the other day.

Just ramped the DX to 9, have it on the dedicated server, turned on the data aquisition, did a lap of Goodwood and all so far so good. Going to do a few morelaps (10 or so) and then start loading GTR2 again if no problems. It usually shuts down within 2 laps IF I actually got THIS far!

Just turned the data off but that's normal. Forgot, when online on MY server it acts funny. But it's always done that.

Is the ram in dual read mode, i think thats slots 1 and 3 if so put them in 1 and 2 (it might be the other way round, dual read is 1/2, so try 1/3 cant remember  :?:

I only have 2 slots. Maybe this motherboard isn't designed for Dual channel? I was told otherwise but no one is perfect. Maybe when I have a spare few bucks I'll get some single channel sticks and try it again.

Just ramped up a bunch of settings (Not the moving trees and "click on here" ones), left the shadowing off and went out on Goodwood again. Man oh man what a difference!!!!!!

It IS worlds ahead of my old card. Might have to tweak (lower) some stuff eventually buyt at least it's working!!!!

Thank you thank you thank you ever so much everyone! I am ecstatic!

Now to get GTR2 back in there.

Sad to have missed Alfatina but there's always next week.

It might be just a tad incompatible with the mem, or maybe some bios setting is incorrect, they always dont default to correct settings.

I know the cpu is slightly overclocked, could that be causing it?

Yep, the memory cant keep up with the OC is always a possibility.

That's all right Jarkko, you've been plenty of help and we got the bugger working (knock on wooden head) again. Go have some fun now.

All my old friends are dead or in jail. LOL.

So, just fired up GTR2, only thing I added was the patch and my plr and it works perfectly in DX9 and most of the settings up....Only did a few laps but......

"By jove, I think we've got it"

So, as far as I know the overclock is just the fsb frequency. Going to drop it down as I think the chip I have is supposed to be 800Mhz and is at 840. I think.

So going into the BIOS, going to write everything down, make the change, see if the PC still runs. (!!!)

If so, I will try to put the other stick of RAM in. If none of the above work, no big loss as I can reverse it to where we are now. But at least I now have a WORKING "baseline". Whew!!!

Okay, PC still working. Heehee. never found no fsb setting. I DID find "cpu clock" which was set at 210Mhz. Dropped it to 200. Checked and now cpu putting out 2.9995 Mhz....

3.0 Ghz cpu so reset cpu clock to 201 Mhz and now cpu at 3028.4.

Gonna try that and add RAM again....

 And...

4 1/2 laps of Goodwood in GTL and CRASH!! Hahaha. No error message though!!

So, I started doing some searches on BIOS and SDRAM and stuff.....

Changed my "Auto detect PCI/DIMM Clk" from enabled to disabled.

Did 6 laps of Goodwood on my dedicated server and NO problems! So far.....

Put the cpu voltage back to 201 mhz.

Now to run a BIG buncha laps because I think we got it!

One thing I have to say that was invaluable in this was this cpuz (CPUID) that I think Ted (2Shedz) told me about and Louie concured.
 (EDIT: Actually, it was Tysie.)
