Legends Mod for GTL
« on: February 12, 2009, 01:42:57 pm »
 :punt:

http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=16887

Again, a release of a mod that simply stands out as perhaps greater then many of the default cars.  (i feel the same way about the 935, and Triumph TR4, Austin Martin DB4, Ferrari 250 SWB, etc.)

Only hang up is GTL's lack of assymetrical setups.  i hope it is also released for GTR2 soon, as that would be a better home for Legends Ovals Racing.

Seems like kind of a weird mod for GTL. I'd think it's suit GTR2 better. Or maybe the creators don't realize legends cars are pretty new tech? I dunno, just seems kinda weird is all. Like the GTR2 cars into GTL mod.

Do Legends cars run on real tracks? Or just ovals? In real life I mean.

Any mod is good. But it seems it may miss the target?

That reminds me, I've had the mod for rfactor for months and have yet to actually fire it up. lol

Might be time soon to give it a whirl!

i have been loving the hell out of this mod.

The cars run on both ovals and road courses.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_car_racing  The mod does a good job with both aspects.

The cars dont fit the production years for FIA Historic racing, but do fit into GTL's unique physics perfectly.  Remember, GTL is not a game placed in the past, but a game of historic cars placed in the present.  GTL rolls on modern rubber, and newer brake materials.  Lack of downforce is also a good reason for a home in GTL.  i would agree that running the Legends mod vs other GTL cars is a bit odd, but running them in the game vs each other, it makes perfect sense.

The cars have alot of power - 140 hp / 1300 lbs.  They have little lateral grip.  As i recall they are chain driven which is why there is no differential and Power/Coast are non adjustable at 100%.  This creates a car that you must drive with very high attention to throttle input.  It is not wise to drive hard into a corner and just let off the throttle, it can easily spin.  It promotes a driving style that has alot of four wheel and long drifts.  It excels as an ovals car for this reason.

i have uploaded a couple setups, both named ROB_Legends to Magny Cours, and VLM Mid Ohio.

Its the trellet mod, but not converted by them. Its done with full permission, and some of the trellet guys did test it. (i was asked to test it also before release but didnt have GTL installed..)
I hope its ok and makes justice for original.. and if i remember correct GTR2 version is also under work.

(I see they didnt convert helmets for my cars at least! If i was anal about that sort of things i would moan.. but its rather irrelevant me thinks)

Very good points 'n posts Gator. I'm liking this mod as well. I seen it for rFactor when it 1st came out awhile back. Personally I think its great to have it in GTL now. Gator, XK and I were playing with them last night. I was suprised that they were classed as GTC until I drove em. The solid diff takes a bit of learning but after a few laps we were drifting them! The car makes for one hell of a spec race. Running them on a short track is such a blast! But fuel useage seems short at most tracks. My brother-in-law owns 3 of them. 600racing.com is the supplier here in N.America.  I've been buggin him for years to get some seat time. They race them just at ovals here in west Canuckville.

They are not chain driven-the motors are turned sideways from how it would be on a bike-there is an adapter where the sprocket would go turning a driveshaft going to a narrowed Toyota rear end. The spider gears are welded so it is a totally locked rear.

Thanks for the info.  :)

My only first hand experience was from the early days when they were 600cc, its been probably 10 years or more, and the memory gets fuzzy.
