Just a fun little rocket for yous..
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:41:43 pm »
I spent this afternoon working on this. I\ve had the idea for MONTHS and frustrating as it was all afternoon just trying to even get it to SHOW UP!!, it was worth it.

I'll just quote the post at Petrolmania:

"Looks innocent? Don't it?

................except it's got 150 horsepower of Renault A110 Alpine stuffed in it's ass! Along with the 5 spd tranny. After the trouble I had getting this car to work, I was starting to think I should have aimed for more power but it's quite a handful as is!!

I originally had thought I'd add 300 hp of Porsche 6 when I built this idea but then I was thinking what would actually FIT!? In reall life...

And so as you can see from a pic of a real Alpine engine, I was thinking, not only would it fit, but the "open lid" view of the Abarth would look pretty much the same as well.

I also used dbstreet's 10 0000 rpm tach as it now revs quite a bit higher then it used to. heeheehee.

This will install in the Abarth1000 foldr but in it's own folder. Enjoy.

 Get one here."

I think I set it up for GTC65. Either way, it won't show up with the Abarths!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow!!!!!!!!   This looks great, can't wait to try this out.   :excited:

I wonder how it will stack up against the 1310 Mini, might be an interesting match up for racing???    :D

Might be pretty close. lol I also did a V8 Mini a while back but it's a demon for handling as it has a Rover 3.5 litre V8 in the back. Only 250 hp so not really that fast but it's based on a real car.

I did this Abarth to replace the Abarthabusa I did for GTL-GTR2 as I can't do the Abarthabusa for GTL. (Well, maybe but beyond my knowledge/skill). Besides, this car is much better balanced and more period correct. Also uses GTL files so don't need permission to do it unlike the Abarthabusa!!

I just noticed it's still in it's normal classes. It's because I thought at one point I'd messed it up. I'll change it tomorrow.

Caspar: Should I leave it TC-65? or go GTC-65?

I also noticed in replays the front tires come through the fenders. I think it may be related to the tyr file I used. Again. I will check in the morning and see if I can fix this. Then re-upload. I'll post when I do. In the meantime, go ahead and download it and play with it anyways.

 Woohooo!!

 I wasn't sure a V8 would physically fit. lol

Okay, all fixed up and the link in the first post goes to the current version. So Caspar, delete the old one though I think it'll work with just a simple overwrite.

I had some concerns as I wrote here:
"I was a wee bit worried about this last one as I realised the A110 motor was water cooled. Also pulled from the R8.

"iron-cast R8 Gordini engines the car was fitted with the aluminium-block Renault 16 TS engine. With two dual-chamber Weber 45 carburetors the TS engine delivered 125 hp DIN at 6000 rpm. This allowed the production 1600S to reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph)."

I never changed the weight or mpg as I figured there wouldn't be much difference. I still don't think the fuel mileage would be much different with that engine pushing that little mass. I suspect thast the lower profile of the Alpine would equal the lower weight of the Abarth. I think.......

Anyways, my next worry was cooling but I'm happy after finding the R8 itself had rear mounted radiators."

And now recall why I was intent on the Porsche motor. but then I'd have to muck about with mpg, and mass files and this car was meant to be a simple fun project. (Though it was surprisingly complicated in the doing. Was a true "tear the hair out" project.) Plus I was thinking it'd bug me in showroom and replays with the open hatch. I even was thinking what would fit as far as engines.

The Porsche, I was thinking would stick too far out, but also wondered if could mid-mount it by turning the transaxle around and fliping the ring gear. (As done when a Corvair engine is attached to a VW beetle transaxle as the Corvair is a reverse rotation engiine.)

And I DID indeed wonder about a small V8, and even was thinking as far as the Ford smallblock being physically slightly smaller then the Chev small block and slightly lighter too. But even with a GT40 transaxle..well, there's that Mini pickup that runs at Gopodwood with the GT40 drivetrain in it. And even that is the pickup with the longer wheelbase. And most V8's I've seen mountyed that way in Minis are the longer variants so....

I DID consider a chain drive with the transaxle under the engine (such as the 60's Olds Toronado) but then I'd have a high cg so......

THEN, I was thinking of the V6 from the Capri. But then the hp would be much higher then I wanted. and I thought of the Alfa's four and even for a second or two the Cortina, but thought it not agreessive enough soundwise. lol And THAT was when I thought of the Alpine. EUREKA!!!

Anyways. That's the story and indeed I did think this project as a "real" car. hahahaaa. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Actually, my first "project" was the Porsche powered NSU but as it's already a mod, I felt wrong with all the stuff about "stealing" other people's work. Just reinstalled the Gordini after seeing the Alfatina post as last I had it installed, it'd show in the miirors as a wheelless "brick" off and on. lol

.....it's not really homework, just accumulated junk inside my head... :rotfl: :rotfl:  :bang:

The Abarth 110 is absolutely fantastic!!!!  :excited: :excited: :excited:

I ran it at Goodwood to warm up the track a bit.
Didn't get near my 1.25 from the Alpine but it goes well, damn well!
Gears are to short though.
Does this one have engine and gears from the default Alpine and rest of physics from the Abarth? How does this work?

Anywho, THANKS DEN!!!!  :D

Yes, the gears are from the Alpine as well.  I figured if one were to add the A110 power to the Abarth transaxle, it would shred!! I guess I could add another higher final drive ratio if you want but I figured 120 mph or so would be about right for this one so left it. lol

Funny you mention Goodwood as that was where I was testing it!! Found I could leave the start/finish area and keep it slideways all the way around the first two corners. Heeheehee.

 EDIT:
Okay, I made a change in the gearbox. Try it now. Let me know. Seems to me the lowest ratio still has plenty of "OOmph" (I also changed the link in the first post.)

Obviously, this requires the "mod" first.....

Tried the purple one at Le Mans.
Shortest gear is fastest, mid and long never reach top revs in 5th (would mean 300kph, hahahaaa!)

A fun rocket indeed!
(love the 'eat my dust' on the back and the Casparati signature, cool!)

Thanks Den!!!
