The Ford Escort RS is pretty realistic, the Ford Capri is also ok:

Horsepower numbers are easily confused today as there are at least 3 ways HP can be expressed:
1. Brake HP (bhp): which is direct crankshaft measurement with no supporting devices operated from crankshaft, ie: water/fuel/electrical/exhaust are managed seperately(no drain on power)
2. Net HP (dyno'd): crankshaft maesurement with all accessories intact and functioning.
3. Wheel (road hp): Measured from driven wheels including all parasitic(sans Aero drag) losses, this method is most realistic/true for comparison.

example, GTL '69 Vette: 569 bhp,  497 nethp, 469 rwhp
numbers are approximated. This is why it's confusing comparing new to old, todays 300 rwhp is equivilent to 370+bhp of the '60's.

Well -my understanding is the game is the cars in modern vintage racing trim -not how they were in 1965.  Modern FIA 289's are 425+hp. (although the plus is classified  :innocent: )

The cars in GTL are from the FIA Historic GTC-TC league and so have to to obey to the FIA appendix K rules. One of the rules is the cars may not be tuned. I guess the 289's you're talking about do not obey to these rules.

3.3 Period specification
3.3.1 Period Specification is defined as the configuration of the model, proven to the satisfaction of the
FIA or the stewards, to have existed in the period in which it is classified.
3.3.2 Any additions to a car’s period specification are forbidden unless expressly authorised by the
regulations herein specific to the car’s Group, or by an announcement in the FIA Official Bulletin concerning
the specific car model or components, or imposed in Article 5 (safety).
3.3.3 Alternative components to the original manufacturer’s specifications can only be used if it is proven
that these components were used in that model of car in an event entered on the FIA International calendar
in the period.
3.3.4 The period, alternative parts and components, and the extensions of the homologation form to be
considered will be specified on the HTP applicable to this specific car.
3.3.5 Unless otherwise specifically authorised by these regulations, any part of a car must have identical
dimensions to the original part and evidence of this must be provided.
3.3.6 The technology used, including that allowed with homologation extensions, must be compatible
with that used in period.
For example, no rev. limiter can be electronic before Period H

They pass tech each + every time. The spirit of the rules being "stock appering" -the topside of the intake manifold may look as produced-its the bottom side that gets all the work. (manifolds take between 30-40 hours to make.)The biggest holdbacks are using stock head castings (which can be ported) and the original style rockers + studs. I spend at least 20 hours a set making them live with hi lift cams!  :o With good heads + valve train components, and american version of the motor makes 125 more hp.

 I dont know how serious tech actually is-the words can be there while the enforcement might not be as serious. last year a few of the cars + crew went over + ran Spa-Lemans + Hockenhiem? I guess if your French + run Lemans, tech is REAL easy on you. The crew fron America was worried how legit they were (which acording to them they were by far the clossest to being 100% by the book legal)-while a customer from there was no wheres close + things not even hidden. While the US crew was burning up distributor points, the french guy had his aftermarket ignition box right out in the open!
 If a customer spends $40k on a motor-and it didnt pass-I dont think they would be getting much return business.
