Final GTL carpack.. done!
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:59:14 am »
Im happy to tell ya its finally finished.. Ill be uploading it to downloads but it will take some time to test for possible errors. For anyone who wants to download it in advance:

Please reinstall GTL.
Make sure you backup anything you might need from your old GTL install.
Remember that there is a possibility if we find bugs that you have to download it all again.

After its officially good to go we make a post about it.. It might be good idea for anyone downloading this
to reinstall GTL, just to be on the safe side.. Hopefully there wont be any problems with it and we can all
enjoy the great cars trouble free.. This is also a bit sad, this is the very final GTL carpack, all the addon
cars that will be used in SJ from now on.. no new ones coming.. hopefully this will have enough variety to
keep the grids colourfull and interesting no matter what combo we run.
Ill post here when i have it uploaded.. it will take a while the pack is large.

:)

I can't thank you guys enough for all your hard work over the past 18 months.  You've turned this thing into a science and we've had nothing but great experiences with these packs.  I can't wait to test the final release out!

I'm excited to see future releases for other sims as well.  :gtg:

Jarkko, I'm really looking forward to this pack. Since I don't have any of the previous packs in my GTL, would you still recommend that I re-install everything?

Its there in the downloads. :)

Nah if you dont have any addons its ok just to put the pack in..
Its highly recommended if you have some previous SJ packs or some other standalones installed.

OK i might be a silly  :gareth: for asking this, but here goes anyway. Do i just install this and let it overwrite or, do i have to remove all the add on cars first, i think i heard whispers about some of the current ad ons being slightly changed(but i might just be making that up  :dunno: ) and i seem to remember seeing a list of defaults some where

THANKS TO ALL CREATORS AND INSTALL WHIZZARDS!!!!!!!

Is there anyone who makes a fresh install and who can give a definite list of all default cars.
I'd like to double check my folder for non default cars

I did it like this;

- backup my teams folder.
- check ingame garage which are default (not foulproof!)
- delete addon cars/skins.
- install SJ carpack (smoooooth!) .
- buy cars I didn't have before.
- I can drop other addon cars back in there later.

I'm VERY happy with my new Ferrari and will drive it proudly at Road Atlanta! Thanks Stick!!!!  :excited:
yes yes, I'll put shadows back on.

In fact LOT of cars were changed and updated.. the amount of cars changed and added is large.. I dont want ppl not to reinstall, run into trouble and then start accusing the carpack.. With backing up the whole process takes 10 minutes, not too much compared to the propably (way) more than 100 hours we put together into this carpack.

Fantastick cars. fresh install and backup of my gamedata folder is done. only did copy back my locations folder so i have all the tracks i used to(that is a good idea by the way)

And with my richard bruns rally practice lately i can make the cars spin a lot nicer.
The still spin, but now in a manerly fashion.

kudos to ya m8eys... lots and lots....

i shall be sorting the servers out in the morning so the new car pack is installed on only 1 of the servers so everybody can make sure there are no problems

Saturdays FUN RUN is default car only races so shouldn't cause any problems for people not updated

BUT I'm planning on the new car pack being used for the first GTL season League race on the 6th of October {silly me and mixed up dates} so would appreciate everybody sorting things out by then this will also give us plenty time to work out any kinks

the reason for only doing 1 server is simple IF there are any problems come first race we can quickly swap servers which will only have the original SJ cars on it also Kristof will have the choice on the 5th for the SJC race

i will name the servers accordingly NEW and OLD so people know what to expect when joining the server

it may be worth backing up your current teams folder so you can quickly revert if there are problems

lol Ian, might be a bit late for 6th Sept, unless you're talking 2008, in which case everybody should be well and truely sorted by then.   :twit:

Done  :excited: Fresh install, patched and car pack added, been out and tested some at Goodwood and all seems well  :fingers crossed: so far
one thing though, i now only own 268 of 291 cars, i used to own 292 of 291, (dont know why) and i cant find any i dont own  :dunno:
Was the corolla and the TR4 supposed to be in this pack, if so, i haven't got em (seem to remember Jarkko saying some thing about a big update due for the TR4, so perhaps they wasn't put in)

Left out the extra cars, Ted...  File size was just too big to make them viable.

Corollas and TR4s were left out due to keep the filesize reasonable. That count gets messed up when different addon cars are installed and removed etc.

EDIT:Byron out typed me.

Just a little trick Ted picked up in Burma... when you do the fresh install and you copy back your userdata, you should see your profile name when you go into multiplayer .. however it will not have loaded the profile until you actually go to the profile page and select it .. you will just get a 'cannot connect' error when you try to connect in multiplayer.

Many thanks to our new technical guru Tedward :)

Ok, bit of trouble here...

I tried to do the right thing and after making a backup of my old GTL install on a different HD I wanted to make a fresh install.
After selecting language and click install, after some 7 seconds or so the screen disappears even though it gives me the next (agree license yadayada screens) when I'm really quick.
I tried at least five times and also tried to clean the cd as good as I can but no luck.

I think there is something wrong with my cd cause other cd's and dvd's work fine and GTL online is fine too when I use the exe in the new folder (the backup GTL).

I think I will have to do it the other way.
Is there a sure way to know exactly which are the GTL default cars so I can try to get the right addon cars out but no default cars and then install only the new SJ carpack for now?
For some cars like Alpine and such I'm pretty sure but last night it proved I had taken out some default Cortinas by mistake cause I don't know the full list by heart.

If I can get it sorted this way I will do extensive testing online to check if I got it right.  :yep: OIt's a dirty job but  lol

Caspar.

Just as I side note.......I know that the key on the disk is the same for all.....So if your finding it hard to install from it...Maybe borrow a copy and install it from that.

I know that the key was the same as my m8 has a copy and the key is the same as mine. Not sure if they are all the same, but seems that way.

Well, I at least can get the former SJ carpack cars out.
Since it's no longer in the download section , is there a list of car numbers of those SJ cars from the old carpacks, just to be sure?  :salute:

i do have a solution to this problem IF it's going to be a problem .......i have a default teams folder already rared up and available for anybody who want to simply just delete there teams folder then unrar this default rar that will leave your original install with the default cars only  then you can simply run the car pack installer

the only drawback it the file is 550mb

OK for the people  who want to go this route  download this archive http://www.simjunkies.org/Extras/Animal/Teams.rar this contains only the default cars from a clean install of GTL

one you have the file open up your GTL/Gamedata folder delete/move your Teams folder  open the .rar files and simply drag the enclosed Teams folder into your open GTL/Gamedata folder
this will give you a clean default Teams folder  once the folder is there simply run the carpack installer to add all the new cars  you will then have a clean install of the cars

Byron pointed out yesterday a good thing about now when the GTL carpacks are done.. GTR2 and RACE cars simply dont inspire as much to paint as the cars in GTL do.. i couldnt agree more.. Ive always loved older cars and hated the new cold, often ugly, technology filled race cars. I hope i can find real inspiration and start getting cars as i have for GTL.. time tells.. I will definitely miss painting cars for GTL.

Dare to convince me otherwise!  :knockout:

So has anyone had any problems with the final carpack? Just curious to hear what people think, and or any problems found? Has anyone tried installing over the old carpacks?

Only good news so far.
Can't stop looking at those cars in showroom though. :)
Somehow I don't expect any problems at all.....the boys know what they're doing I guess.

Tried to be clever and installed it over what was installed already :nope:

So backed up what I needed to, then installed it to a fresh one :yep:

Better late than never...

I tried to use the Three legged Dog mini the other day and GTL CTD. I tried 2 times before picking another mini and it worked fine. Then today just before i made this post i double checked and yes, GTL CTD when i selected it.

Can somebody try it on their own machine to see if its a Carpack error? maybe its my computer.. or maybe its the carpack, not sure at this stage..

or maybe The boys just dont want me to drive it :(

I would suggest manually removing the 3LD Mini...  then running the carpack uninstaller - then re-installing the carpack.
