Differential Clutch Questions
« on: August 07, 2009, 03:55:05 pm »
Well, I finally tracked down a copy of the GTR2 w/GTL bundle last night. I always be a retro racing guy, having 1st cut my racing sm iteeth in GPL, but I've got to say - man is GTR2 a heckuva nice racing game!

Anyhow...on to my questions. I've only started practicing with the Cooper S and the Cortina in GTL. I've noticed that the breaking seems very off in the default setup. The rest of the setup actually seems quite good, and after only a minimal amount of camber and spring tweaking, my O/M/I and I/M/O temps seemed good for both sets of wheels.

What  I'm wondering about is what type of differentials are featured in those cars. I've noticed that the power/coast ramp angles look to be tweakable, so are they supposed to feature limited-slip differentials?
The other question I have is; I noticed there's no control over the number of diff clutches, so am I correct to assume these 2 cars, or all cars in GTL for that matter, only have 1 diff clutch?

The reason I ask is because back in my GPL days I remember a nice tweak where you could achieve pseudo ABS on rear wheels by setting the coast ramp angle low and using 4 or more clutches. That worked really well and helped a lot with corner entry breaking. I'm hoping the same can be achieved in GTL, but with no diff clutch control I'm doubtful.

BTW I wasn't sure if this is the righ forum to post this type of question, so please let me know if it isn't.

It's fine here mate.
I can't really help cause I wouldn't know the technical data in real life.
Brake bias more to the rear (typical GPL style, hihi) and diff settings can help a lot for entry braking in GTL imo.
But the nice technique in GPL you talk about, that's something I never used that accurate. But I will if I dare go drive the 67's and the rest again. (4years of hotlapping GPL) Thanks for the tip!

Someone of Simjunkies will tell you where it's at though.  :hats off:

If you like GTR2 and old cars.....you MUST try the Power&Glory mod!
It's the best physics in sim racing I've ever seen, and so so pretty in image and sound too.

Another question, these are legacy cars running on modern tracks - correct? So are the tire temp reads supposed to be discerned via modern telemetry or traditional pyrometer? Not that it matters much either way, but if it's the former technique is it, or shouldn't it be, possible to get the temp reads real-time on the track? I haven't seen any feature in the game that would allow for that.

In GTL, no visible tyre temps while driving.
Unless, you have an addon telemetry/info thingy program on a second monitor.
Some SJ have it.

GTL= old cars  with some important modern stuff, brakes , tyres etc., a FIA specs racing series (that I happened to see live in Zolder 2005)
Power&Glory= old cars as they really were back in the 60's
The tracks, there's hundreds of them, old and new.

With the XD mod you can get monitor your tyre & engine temps in game (no extra monitor needed) in GTL, GTR2 and Race07

Hey, thanks Kristof!
Didn't know the tool worked for other sims than GTR2 too.
