i've been thinking again
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:41:51 pm »
i know bad of me lol

right the thought

Mixed GTL races  :?:

we have a very varied member group from top quality right down to flat out beginner now my way of thinking is when we run single model eg Capri races these races are very difficult for the beginners amongst us to cope with and can't be much fun

how do you all feel about using mixed class cars TC-65 GTC-65 and GTC-TC-76 in all races so those that feel they aren't up to driving the Capris, 911, GT40's and so on then less confident people can opt to run a lower class car and feel more in control and enjoy the races more

i know there are misgivings about the slower cars on the track when running the big fast cars BUT think about it the Goodwood Fun run worked  :?:  in fact i enjoyed the challenge of coming up on a back marker in a mini when i was in the Capri

i personally would rather have somebody slow on the track in full control of a mini than somebody all over the road struggling with the power of the Capri
I'm sure the faster among us are now capable of taking the slow in control cars into account much better than an over powered out of control car

this doesn't mean all the fast have to drive the fast cars and so on all the time there would still be the jag mk2 races and the elan or the mini only races  but we just give the  option for those feeling better in the small cars the chance to run the car they can handle in every race
no disrespect for either Kay or Alan and others  but I'm sure they would have more fun keeping something smaller on the track and in control rather than a slippy 911 or the BMW

it is meant to be fun for all

now my reasoning for the thought
we are getting a lot of applicants asking to join then they are not actually joining the races  is this due to lack of ability/confidence with the bigger cars especially in the single class/model races :?:  i now when i started  my online racing i avoided the fast cars races like a plague  i always looked out for the mini, alfa races

anyway I'm just thinking aloud sorta thing wondering how we can try and entice all these applicant's onto the track with us and giving the less experienced the chance for more fun on track  :dunno: like i say it's just a out loud thought

Careful with that thinking there, Giz...  Never did no one no good, didn't thinking!

I like what you're saying, though.  I'm not sure doing it for all ESJ/GTL races would be the way to go.

Maybe every other race or something like that.

it would be interesting....

Imagine if I was in a GT40, and caspar/cobra and co was in a Escort or BMW TC76... Ive always wanted to take on the might of TC76 in the ole GT40.

But that being said it would be quite scary coming up on an Abarth while going flat chat in a Pantera! haha, The wind would simply blow the abarth off the road!.

Im all for these types of races but then the issue of points and who gets what is a little sketchy. I love fun races and have picked slower cars to make it thus, but with every decision i still want to at least have a chance to score well and get some solid points. You wont be seeing me run Mini's and get next to last when i could have choosen a GT40 and got a top 5. i have enough trouble with the healey in OSJ without volunteering for that treatment again rotfl

Seriously, it won't be easy to sort out a good points system.
The GT40, goes in GTC76 class? The Cobra? They might need a special class in between GTC65 and GTC76?

But I LOVE the idea, just great to run several classes in one race and not only at.......Les 3 Heures du Mans !!!!!  :yep:

the points wouldn't be that difficult  we would decide on what cars are for what class then peoples simply pic a car for a race and only score in that class eg

Dion one race runs a mini comes 1st he gets top points for the TC-65 in that race  the next race he runs a GT40  he comes 2nd :jawdrop: and gets 2nd place points for that class meaning he is first in 1 class but only second in the other and so on through the season at the end he may be champion in 1 class  OR if he plays it right he May be able to get champion in them all

that would be up to him either concentrating in one class or have a lot of fun mixing it with the little cars even them he will end up winning out right a race  more than lightly in a lower class car BUT would only score points for the class of car he drove

and   i will work out  a special championship in also were having driven a lower class car a driver can win a  special trophy for beating the higher class drivers

would be interesting to see somebody in a car such as the Alfa toughing it out with the Capris and the like and would be rewarded for it at the end of the season

it was Goodwood that got me thinking about it i feel everybody had fun in that no matter what there driving ability  i don't remember many if any complaints about the slower cars being in the way ......yes i had a few time the slower than me cars got in the way a bit but ya lean to pace the lap so you can pick them off easy  lol

like i said it's just the out loud sort of idea  to guage the feeling of the rest of ya  ;)

It sounds like an excellent idea there Giz, but all of a sudden i'm thinking about your workload sorting it all out m8.

Count me outtof the points.. hehe.. that's one less task for yah!   (couldn't give a ratt's a...  neverming.. )
I'm here for the fun anyways.. and if i dont like something.. i just dont join.. simple is that.

Woof ~ Woof

ill be on the back of the grid seeing all the overpowered drivers mudslide off the track.. hehe.. but an occasional Capri with stuck pitlimiter is an option as well..  i love open class!

Speaking from personal experiance at the Goodwood fun run we had (And a good one at that), I'm all for it, as long as those who are coming up on the back markers don't try and overtake in the chicane just before the half mile straight, just to wonder why they have ended up in the kitty litter.

I like good close racing and understand people want to keep as much distance from the guy behind, but I think it just needs some thought coming up on a back marker. They aren't going to put up a fight and to wait for the right place to pass is key to being a skilled driver.

I also know that it will be me being the back marker........And I don't like getting stoved as much as the next guy.

Great idea Ian. I'd propose we limit it to dual makes, and yer allocated your ride based on previous standings. .. No 'Ifs and buts' ... but the advantage is only enough so that the slower guys still feel achievement and the fast guys feel they's had a competative run. ... most of you know the cars better than me but I'll vouch an example:
Elans (division 1 drivers) vs Elites (Premier division drivers)

Minis (division 1 drivers) vs Abarths (Premier division drivers)

Whatever... let's do it!

err you trying to say it's over your head again Pete?

this suggestion/out loud thought is only for a future season the next ESJ is already fixed and ready to go and will be up and running in a week or so

going off the reaction so far i will put my mind to this a little more now and see if i can come up with a more definite proposal

I think it's a great idea.  Having different types of cars on the track at the same times makes the racing more interesting.  I wasn't there for the Goodwood races, but the ESJ race at Dijon Short with Mini's, Elite's, and Jag MK2's was great fun, as well as the free choice SJC races.  The power of the TVR vs the cornering and braking ability of the Elan at Oschersleben, or Cobra's, Daytona's, and TVR's at Brno.  Those were all great races, and I think the variety of cars was a huge factor in that.

I like the idea of this.
could give me the chance to get into GTL with slower cars and still race a full grid.

To be very honest to all of you.

The tracks.

I find it very hard to adapt to certain tracks nowadays, might have to do with overall concentration issues, but somehow i turn away from some tracks as they just dont suit me. I know i'm not the fastest, and to be honest lately i've been sortta losing my touch... i've stayed away from tom for a while now.. but yes.. i touched yer car on track again m8... i'm losing the safety's.. grinn.   Somehow i just cant adjust fast enough to tracks.  I do love testing a new track but somehow i get frustrated at some of them so i just dont attend (sorry giz.. you're thoughts exactly)   Some carclasses.. indeed.. i dont feel like driving them, or just cant handle them properly... and get in ppl's way. Which will eventually happen as i'm watching screens all day and my eyes will rapidly decay in a matter of weeks (pun)... (yes.. steiny, the blind pringlecan.. uhuh..)

same thing goes for the elite.. i hated the bloody thing untill we were all driving it and i took the time for it to practice (and grosely overdid it.. but then again.. i was hosting the session.)

Maybe this should be in some kinda other thread...

rant over?!

But i would love to race with a mixed field, in fact i wish you would run the Goodwood event again cos some of us had to miss it and at the real event we could only watch  :innocent:
