Problem joining online
« on: June 20, 2009, 02:01:49 am »
Hi.  I just dusted off my GTL game & wanted to run a few laps tonight but everytime I join I get a "Game not available" error.  I d'led the SJ carpak, I have 1.1 installed but even on other servers, it keeps giving me the same message.  I looked in the forum but found nothing.  I also have GTR2 & PnG & they work fine.  Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

I'd go for a virgin reinstall, GTL, the 1.1 update and the carpack. Create the TG2001.DYD file, create a new profile and give it another go.

Thanks for the quick response.  I installed GTL yesterday, patch 1.1, gamecopyworld nocd files & SJ carset tonight.  Offline works well. No online yet though.  I will wait a bit before reinstalling.  I will try another new profile & see if it helps.

Thanks again

I haven't ever been able to get that nocd thing to work.  Perhaps that is the issue.  If you do a virgin install, I'd try joining before you apply that patch.

Just a thought.  I know others have got it working though.

bwana, I noticed that documented installing the no cd patch. Did you start the game up with the CD to enter the serial number before launching with the patch? If not, this would cause the problem you are experiencing. Well it did for me. I could race offline but not online.

I think all I had to do was put the cd in, open it in windows explorer and launch GTL from there, then I was challenged for the CD key and could enter it.

Good luck  :)

Good luck mate, there's a bit of jiggery pokery to be done with getting rid of the cursed StarForce with your first install if you are wanting to play without disk.

Well I put in my dvd  & started it from there but I'm still getting the same message.  What I did was install the game, patch it, then I removed the starforce files :D & added the nocd files.  I didn't restart my computer until 5 minutes ago but still no go.  I do not want starforce to screw up everything else on my computer but I might just have to bite the bullet & do a reinstall of GTL with starforce then remove it with a program I saw somewhere.  Do you think this is a good path to take?

Thank you all for your input thumbs up

Yup, you will need to reinstall as Starforce is what you need to enter your key into   ;)

Well I did a fresh install & 1.1 patch, I let starforce install the drivers & now it works! I can join online.  Now for the next step; I hate using the dvd to start a game so I want to install the nocd files.  Anyone have any pros or cons about that?  Also, I want to get rid of starforce completely - what program do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Glad you sorted it mate.

There is a dedicated Starforce removal tool, but someone else will have to give you a link - cos I can't remember, sorry!

One thing to look out for - the NoCD patch alters the format of the sound files, which can cause unpleasant stuttering on the engine notes (caused by the loop point being offset).  There is a fix for this too - but again, you'll have to wait till someone with a fully functioning memory comes along to give you a link.

Thanks for your help guys.  I did notice a stuttering with GTL on the previous install - glad there's  a fix.  Well, on to nocding & sound fixing.  Hope to be on later.

Thanks again all.

:(  Well I screwed it up again.  After adding the nocd files, I tried to go online but it was back to square one - no good.  Back to the 'game not available' error again.  I uninstalled the SF drivers & still no luck.  For the 3rd & final time, I will do a reinstall & leave the SF drivers in & do without the nocd files.  It bugs me to have to use the dvd but if it won't work otherwise, I guess its the way it has to be.  I just hope my dvd will keep getting recognized at the start of the game.

Really hope to be online later

Good luck with this bwana. One thing to be sure of is that you are running the decompress.bat file for the nocd patch from your GTL folder. These are the steps I follow when I have to re-install GTL for reference...

Install GTL.
Install 1.1 patch.
Launch the game and enter key, create a dummy player profile and close game.
Copy the nocd files over to my GTL directory (used to preserve the life of my GTL disk)
Run decompress.bat form GTL directory (this can take what feels like forever)
Run the sound fix.
Install the SJ carpack.
Create the unlock all file in the root of GTL folder.
Launch game, create my actual player profile and go racing.
Make sure that windows is allowing your game to pass through it's firewall as well.

I hope this can be of some help to you. I know it took me a couple of times to work this out when I first did it way back when :)

Thanks for the tip Junebug.  I will be going home shortly & will try your step by step method as a last resort.  The version I have came with GTR2 so it has the 1.1 patch already in the install.  I hope this will work, if not, I'll be forced to use my dvd :(

Well I tried your steps but it still screws it up.  I did notice that all the .gdb extensions become GDB after the nocd files are installed.  Other extensions also become upper case.  Could you check your installation to see if any are upper case extensions?  Maybe this could be the problem - I think I read about it somewhere.  Do you have a different link to the nocd files other than at gamecopyworld?

My .gdb files are all lower case.

I have no links for them either :(

Are you running ZoneAlarm? hit alt+tab to switch to it when GTL tries to connect to lobby, then click "allow".
