Online etiquette
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:07:42 pm »
I finally got the chance to race online with others last night.  I had great fun with a dozen or so drivers who were very friendly & inviting.  I did unfortunately have an incident whereby after running off track, I glanced back to see if anyone was there before re-entering the track.  Seeing no one there, I got back on track & drove off.  It seems as though  I cut someone's path as I got back on track but they were invisible to me.  I hear that once on track, new cars don't get loaded until you return to the pits.  My question is what should be done to avoid this in the future.  Should I immediately go back to the pits when I see a new driver enter the game so that his car gets loaded?  If so, going back to the pits would happen often since guys are coming & going often to change cars etc.
I did & restate my apology to that driver but it was out of my control; if a car isn't there, how can I avoid it?  I don't want to get a bad name for this incident since I try my best to race clean & fair.  I think others who were there last night can attest to my driving.

Hope to be on track again soon. :hats off:

Hehe

Don't worry mate, we've all done it.  There's not a lot can be done to avoid the odd invisibility incident, but being on Ventrilo does help a lot.

You can set your game to load cars immediately - but this can cause lag as people join.  The best compromise is to set them to load 'at a safe speed' so that when you slow down, the new cars are loaded.  These settings are somewhere around the multiplayer lobby - don't remember exactly where.

As I say though, a word or two on Ventrilo will avoid any misunderstanding.

Bwana, great to see you asking about this, shows you care about etiquette and safe driving.  :hats off:
It happens occasionally that you will run into someone who is invisible due to them entering the server while you are driving, but that usually only happens in Practice where noone will mind. Very occasionally it may happen during Qualy, but I think if someone joins during qualy, they should know the risk they are taking and be tolerant.  :)

I always slow down, get off the track and when I almost stopped the frame freezes, people are loaded and the frames go on and I get going.
Just slowing down and staying on track/race line is still dangerous.

Superb gentlemanly conduct by the way. :hats off:
Don't worry to much, one crashes, one just does.  lol

I like this guy.  Anyone who thinks enough about the race to post something like this is alright in my book.

Stick around mate, we can always use folks like you.  :gtg:
