Enlarging Guages in Cockpit View
« on: August 11, 2009, 07:08:17 pm »
I currently have the cockpit view with high details enabled. My problem is that my gaming PC is only connected to an older 34" Sony HDTV of the tube variety. It has a coarser DPI resolution than newer gen LCD's and consequently it's difficult to read some of the guages in the cockpits; particularly the Mini Cooper.

Is there a way to increase the size of the tachometer or speedometer guages or to display a digital text readout of them?

you can set your .plr file to allow HUD in cockpit.

Edit it in Notepad

Under Graphics options - Allow HUD in cockpit =1.

Press 2 to turn it on and off (I think)

EDIT: heh heh great minds think alike Drokky.....

OPtions usually are 1 for on and 0 for off.

But that's not what he means.. he wants to have crisp guages in the dashboard itself...

You might want to look into how many pixels your (according to you) outdated 34 incher can handle, if it's below 1680x1050 then yes, the dials are somewhat blurry i think... as i think the first time i hit the 1680 resolution i could see the dials a bit clearer, just not THAT clear.. the 22" i have now will do it quite crisp... you might also want to check what your graphicscard is having for the profile for the games you play, it might be set too low...

hope the hints work for you m8ey

I think I do have Hud = 1 in the PLR, but readings are still sometimes ilegible. I'm not in front of my gaming rig right now, so I'll check to reconfirm that later. Crisp legible guages would be ideal, but I'd settle for just readable text at this point. I can see the redline in the cortina and the redline lights in the Mini Cooper, so I can at least avoid over rev'ing

My graphics cards settings are all good and I've got it maxed for about the best definition I can get. I can only run at a special resolution of 1136x664 though, since my older HDTV doesn't have native PC support and underscans - my resolution is actually an underscan compensated 1280x720 (720p). Unfortunately there's no way I can get to anything as high as 1680x1050 :( Besides, my aging gaming rig would never handle a resolution that high with all the bells and whistles turned on. ;)

ok. with hud on you can now hit 2 above your "W" on the keyboard, that "should" bring up the fuelgage, timing and speeddails (kinda arcady) but i think if you hit 3 then you will see the current gear you are in, WITH a red blob next to it, to see when yer overrevving...

somehow i only use that gearindicatorthing on the bottom right of my screen.. (hit 3 multiple times) and when i dont use it i feel lost somehow.. hahaha

Hope it helps for ya m8ey

My bad...I had Hud = "1',  but didn't have Allow HUD in cockpit = "1" set in my PLR - all is good now. Although they require more than a split second glance, the guages are reasonably readable on my aging HDTV's 1136x664 display.
Now if I could only just finish 1/2 of my races and place higher than 2nd...practice...practice.   :hmm:

A simple "thank you",  would have sufficed.

You're correct, my bad again. Many thanks Stein and everyone else that posted to help me and my apologies if I sounded ungrateful. Additional thanks and kudos to the development team for allowing alternate views of the guages - the more I play this racing sim the more I get the impression they've thought of everything. ;)

hehe.. no problem m8ey, was having a rotten day yesterday.. so guess i was fishing for it..

i'm just waiting until you've had your first "disco"

THEN you will understand that they even thought of a message saying "Disconnected from Server"
And it's the most feindish thing this game will ever dish out.

Disco? About my only experience with that was as a kid watching my brother destroy stacks of disco LPs with a sledge hammer when he was part of a disco demolition crew. lol  :rotfl:

I can't imagine what disco has to do with this game, except that some of the cars would have been racing in the disco era.  :hmm:

Wait...I think I've guessed it...when you win a championship does John Travolta greet you in pit lane dressed in his Saturday Night Live finery, hosting the trophy in that classic stance?   8-O
