Word association is dead
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:08:48 am »
Trying a few things to see what actually effect forum performance.  :)  Forgive me for killing this pointless thread.  If it makes no difference we can start a new one.

Edit:  I also killed three word story, and small irritations.  Not because they were pointless.  Actually they were some of my favorites.  But all said I just deleted 3,500 posts from the database in only three threads.  Feel free to start these two threads anew.

:)

did you optimize the db yet .. i'd love to know what kind of savings you'd get from that kind of mass deletion ...

I did optimize.  Unfortunately my connection was giving me fits when I did it.  Now that my ISP has stabilized it seems things move a bit quicker.  I guess the real test will be for the guys that are really having trouble.

The next step is a complete forum reinstall.  Keep the posts but lose the arcade, and a few corrupted scripts.

Oh and the reminder for everyone to clean out their PM inbox.

The database was over 10MB before.  I deleted those three threads and pages of threads that were gathering dust in a board affectionately named "the recycle bin".  Shedding that weight dropped the db size by ten percent.  :jawdrop:

Edit:  I've always kept boards and users trimmed based on activity.  But I've never deleted Eight thousand posts in one night.     I'm certain nothing real important was lost, but damned I feel like a lot of good jokes and history were.

I'm going to create a hall of fame board.  :oooh:  Just to save the best threads that might otherwise be deleted.

I was thinking the stack-up threads would need trimming soon.  I bet the forum will move a lot smoother as a result.

I think the same could be said for most of Spamnation, I'm sure we never re-read them and some are meant to be spontaneous and short lived ... Post office, Dad's army etc...
