The original song (uncovered)
« on: August 27, 2009, 08:52:42 am »
There must have been a point in your life when you discovered that one of the songs you so loved when you where young had been covered by some evil dancetune making scallywag who basically just nabbed it, and covered it... sometimes doing a better job then the original, sometimes just screwing it up completely (in your opinion ofcourse..)

I'd like to kick this thread off with an american legend... as it's the example i came across just now (after "smoke on the water" was actually a title by the same artist featured in the first clip, but about 30 years before Deep purple used the title with completely different lyrics, yet in youtube they end up just about on the same page!)

anyways.. here's one:

Red Foley - Freight Train Boogie

John Denver: Frieght Train Boogie

Freight Train Boogie

I'll find a better example.. as "freight train boogie"  seems to have been sung by... EVERYBODY.. hahaha doh!

It's quite sickening isn't it?

If you hear anything on the radio or somewhere, make a note, post it here!   I know there's some classical music pieces already converted to dance...

Tiesto did a fine job in tricking me:

Like this one:

Tiƫsto - Adagio For Strings

and the uncovering that Kristof did last time on comms:

Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings, op.11

I was amazed to discover that this definitive version was not in fact the original...

William Shatner - Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds

Another one covered(or should I say raped?) in the same period as the Cold as Ice one:

3 Steps Ahead - Paint it Black

Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
Drums sound a bit weak in all videos unfortunately.

Always thought this was originally a song by REM  :?:
U2 One(2003-06-21_Dublin)

Just remembered another less obvious one. I couldn't believe it when someone made that comparison until I actually heard it.
DECIBEL OUTDOOR 2008 - PAUL ELSTAK - DJ Mad Dog - Nasty

Metallica - Unforgiven
