The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
A great program about the wonderful Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

What's So Great About... Bob Dylan
Lenny Henry questions the iconic status of people or things held dear by many.

Darn, no realplayer on this machine.  Will winamp work?  Does it do any of the nasty stuff that realplayer does (installing the removal file into the windows/temp folder)?

Yeah...  The Real Alternative player was fine with the Uke prog, (and most other ones I tried) but it wouldn't play the Dylan one.  Bit odd.

This week, I have been mostly listening to...

Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show

Didn't really take to Count Arthur Strong, years ago when I first encountered him on late night TV...  But now I love it.  The way he buries himself under deeper and deeper piles of confused idioms and mixed metabolism is genius!

Here's a clip from the YouTube...

Here's a good one, just stumbled across it this morning.

A program about the software that's being developed that can actually beat world class professionals at Hold 'em Poker.

The Computer with the Poker Face

For the ultimate test though, they need to pit it against our Pete after a couple of bottles of Vin de Bargain Booze!

Edit...  looks like they've finally ditched the evil Real Player.  Hoorah.

Perfect for a place like SJ...  Stephen Fry investigates the peculiarities of the English language.

Fry's English Delight

This, the first of three programs, looks at metaphor.  Wonderful stuff.

If you figure that stuff out let me know.  I tried to look into it this summer for watching f1, but couldn't figure a way to do it for free.

Sorry, didn't realise BBC iPlayer wasn't available over there.

All my picks are from BBC Radio 4.  There MUST be a way  of getting it in the US.

Part two of Fry's English Delight.

This one, about the use and abuse of quotations, I like better than the first program.

Nice one Lee.  There's nowt better than a bit of Count at Christmas, as my old grandmother would probably always have said, if she'd ever seen the thing it was that she was saying it about...

This can be a good program, if the panel is well matched.  As in this case...

The Unbelievable Truth

This is funny too:

4 Stands Up

In a break with tradition - something that's not been on yet...

Tonight at 2200 BST on BBC Radio 3 - The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain perform a Prom's concert at the Albert Hall.  Miss it at your peril!
