Rainbow six Las Vegas 2
« on: April 26, 2008, 03:04:30 pm »
I edit this first post and give it a review.

The game is tested on this rig.(I set only the main parts up here)

CPU:E6750 core 2 dual running stock at 2.66ghz
GFX:8800GTS 512mb
RAM:2x2GB dualsticks
PSU:600Watts

First impressions in good and i now want to give you just a little insight in the different aspects of the game.
If you have played the first RsixVegas, you will feel right at home at the start.
the controls are the same, and you will straight away understand that the main layout for this game is ment for consoles. There is also in the PC version set up unique buttons for things aswell as the main layout. Once you get used to it, you should find it quite good.

GAMEPLAY:
Like I stated, if you have played the first vegas you will feel at home once you start the game.
You are a rainbow operator wich leads a team of three. You have the ability to point out where to send the other two operatives, or you can simply just let them follow you wherever you will go.
The AI is smarter this time around and they will seek cover in a better way then before.
That means if you are caught in the line of fire with your team, they will try to seek cover as soon as possible. However, this does not mean that they will do so every time, and you will see from time to time that your mates stands in the middle of the bullet rain and drop dead as if they panic and freeze.
Good thing that you can revieve them or send you living teamates do revive the fallen comrade.
That thing that puzzles me is why there is no option for YOU to be revieved by your team when you are shot. A thing i personally would like to have in.
Enemy AI is also smarter, and will try to take you from different angles depending on the situation and layout of the given area.
There is almost always more than one way to go on completing different tasks, and therefore you are able to use more tactics in your planning of procedure.
But here you will also see the console gamers need for more action over tactical planning play a big role.
there is no before-mission-planning like in the old days, there is no bigger open areas of wich you can plan ahead. However, the game is laid out quite good, and the action is based on you not noticing this that much.

The cover and shoot way of playing in this game is something that I have missed in other games. The abillity to hug up on a wall to have a peek around the corner, to choose wether to fire in blind around the corner or lean out and aim is something that other gameproducers should consider as a ground rule when making tactical shooters.
It works good, and makes you feel even better when you are at a corner and see an enemy comming rushing to the corner, only to meet the end of your barrle when you stick your gun out there and fills him with lead without even sticking your neck out in danger.

The game feels good to play and seems more thought-through than the first in this "new" rainbow series.
And I guarantee you to have a good time if you are into actionfilled FirstPersonShooters.

GRAPHICS:
the game is demanding, no doubt about that. And if you still are running a singlecore CPU you had better make sure that you are atleast on a 3.0ghz CPU to have some basic graphics up. GFX should be on nvidia 7900 or x1950pro for ATI or higher. I highly recommend something in the line of the PC that I have tested this on.

On the game set at maximum settings and on 1280x1024(wich unfortunately is the highest on my screen) I land on anything from 50-70 FPS and never below 50.
What I did notice is that you should have your Anisotropic filtering ON on you card and have the Anti-Aliasing to be OFF on you card and ON ingame.
If you set it to be controlled by your card, you will have issues on the graphics and flikcering on the screen. If some of you have tried the same on CRYSIS you will know what i am talking about.

The games graphics looks sweet. The areas are nicely moddeled and the characters are done as good as you would xpect on such a new game.
You should not xpect anything outstanding. There is nothing here that you prob have not seen before if you play as many FPS games as I do, but everythings looks good.
You will notice that the Postprossecing feature wich is in the first game (and is impossible to get rid of) is less noticable in this game, and soo it makes the game look alot more "crisp" instead of the glory-blur.

I will give this game a good 8/10 in both gameplay and graphics.
I did not go to much into sound as i only have a stereo sound system. But on that system the sound is good and the fx is as nice as can be.

I hope you enjoyed the reading.

PS.
There is quite a few ONLINE options to be considered aswell, but since I have mostly played the singleplayer version so far I will not go anydeeper in on the gamplay for online.

I nearly bought it today.  Did I choose wisely by not getting it then?

Yeah, at least first one was arcade shooter without any of the old tactical features. You advance in maps like in any other shooter difference is you have 2 teammates who you can command, very limited. Most tactical it is when you can command teammates from other door and go yourself from other. Guns are unrealistic, enemies are absolutely numerous.
Heres one example. a "hostage" situation in hotel:

Before you even reach the hotel, you need to kill down at least 50 enemies that spawn from other dimension apparently. The route to hotel is a pipe, made very unrealistically with burning cars etc. other fake blocking so you have to go through the certain pipe. This was in the first one.. Apparently second is not much different.
The coop was fun couple times, but very boring very soon. Its literally deathmatch against AI with teammates. You kill the enemies from the map and thats it. I wouldnt buy it if i could choose again.
But thats me, Cato loves the series. lol

Well.

We cannot like all the same.

Dunno if you liked COD4 Marcus? Think you did????
Ask Jarkko what he thinks

But the best way to go is to show how it is.
I will make a video of it.
