Oh and just to mention. There will be no monsters and aliens roaming this world.
THANK GOD.

Nice review Cato, thumbs up

A couple of points you mention would put me off (provided of course I had a machine that would even let me install it  lol).

The lean left & right thing for a start. Now that is pretty much standard fare these days I would have thought. That function has been around for years so there's really no excuse for omitting it and it can be a very useful function too.

The other thing is
the fact that everybody is shooting at you whenever they see you. A bit shit really as I think that everybody cannot know you as an enemy right from the start.

Yeah, and they still probably give you a good old peppering with laser like pin-point accuaracy, even though you are in good cover and nothing more than an unrecognizable dot about half a mile away  lol

Everything else sounds great though. Especially the fact there are no irritating and invincible monsters or feckin' zombies around. That is a BIGplus point. That old unimaginative and tired stupidity was one of the reasons I gave up playing FPS games in the first place.

Ok, no lean left/right. Can you crouch and lie prone? I do like to do a sneak 'em up (especially if I have a sniper rifle or a silencer for whatever bit of death dealing kit I'm using  :) as an alternative to charging in gung ho all guns blazing.

Well, you can crouch, you cannot go prone, you can sneak, you can use machete to stealth kill, you can sneak aorund and kill with sniper and silenced handgun.

But immersion is the key here.

I need some more hours behind it to really tell if it is repetative action and so on, but for now, my review stands as is.

Looks awesome Cato, and a most enjoyable review.  Youngest son is straining at the leash for this one, so dare say it will end up on one of the machines here.  Keep us updated.  thumbs up

Well.. first 2 hours (about) with the game. Quick impressions.

Good

-Feels like Far Cry.
-Graphics.
-Atmosphere/Nature/Swaying grass and trees.
-Fire as element.
-Freedom.
-Music momentarily remind me of Predator. (it has nice atmosphere)
-Few nice new tricks, like repairing trucks, pulling bullets out of your body etc. small details..
-Fire
-Fire
-Fire

Bad

-No hitting dirt or peaking wtf is that shit?
-Feels like Far Cry.
-Uber enemies (they take way too much hits).
-Unrealistic controls and feeling.
-Repeats itself.
-Enemies regognise who you are in nanosecond.
-Lack of immersion is always there thanks to gameplay and gameworld is "made for player".

For now i wouldnt give it more than 80/100... If it feels like it repeats itself too much.. id drop it to 75/100.. It has some great things... but few tricks arent enough, if the basics aint working great.

This game has stunning graphics.. i prefer the visual style much more than the "photorealism" in Crysis.. Im enjoying the "Africa sandbox" plenty.. Yeah there are some things missing youd expect to have.. but it is pretty damned fun game, if you let yourself enjoy it.
(I think yesterday i played it too much with "critic" mode on.. today ive been playing with "adventurer" mode on and its been so much more fun.. i dont keep hurry with anything.. just roam in the gameworld exploring stuff, making missions and enjoying the atmosphere)

:)

My current combo is PKM, Dragunov and silenced Makarov... it gives tool for any situation pretty much. :)

Usually drop enemies from distance, if they get close PKM will take down anything.. and sometimes i just sneak at night.. like in a mission to steal khat leaves.. in a middle of this farm.. filled with enemies.. only had to take one shot.. one guards patrol route was so bad i had to pop his head with the Makarov.. silenced weapon of course didnt alarm anyone else.. then grabbed the khat leaves and sneaked outta there.. Really this game is billion times more fun than Crysis..

I guess the main irritation atm for me is taking out the same outposts again and again, not being able to crawl.. bit too strong enemies.. (id rather have them take less bullets, but also cause more damage when they shoot at ya.. of course maybe they should be a tad less accurate then) and lack of wildlife predators... like tigers and lions.. and where are the monkeys and elephants?
Only seen some deers, zebras and rhinos so far me thinks... In fact killed one Zebra by driving over it (accidentally).. bothered me so bad i had to load a save lol

If you can live with the few things that are lacking.. then surely it is.

ive seen some wildebeest too. i too have the silenced markov, bloody good fun taking snipers and rocket guys out with it at the police station
very nice game indeed, yes it has faults. but its got a very fresh feel to it. its on par with clearskies for graphics but in a different way, this is smooth and CS is more gritty. enjoying this one more mainly because there's no mission glitches. got pee'd off with stalker not recognising when ive finished a very long mission  :grrr: i await a fix for that.
i recommend this game to anyone who likes a story and free roaming with there FPS  thumbs up

The game looks like fun, I was not very impressed by the later half of Crysis (well to be honest, I hated it), and the suit made things a little too easy at times. I loved the original Far Cry, the monsters were a little odd, but it gave the game a great dark feel at times. I will probly pick this game up after I get through STALKER and finaly get around to playing STCC.
