CoD4 Multiplayer vs. Insurgency
« on: December 05, 2007, 01:36:36 am »
Well I have played both now and I have to say Insurgency wins hands down. In fact I don't care that much at all for CoD4 multiplayer.  :(  As I don't care much for single player it looks as though I have wasted $50.

I am with you Mike.  The multiplayer in insurgency is the greatest of any shooter to date.  However I thought the single player in call of duty was great!

Hmmm since i have not yet downloaded the HL2mod update yet, then maybe someone who did should write a short and filling review of it.

i love CoD4 online, and i did love the SP of it aswell, and well, if the insurgency is that much better, i would say we have a great thing on our hand.

So if i could be so bold to ask for a short review, maybe with some screenshots??????

yeah same here about the beta. i think maybe i have not uninstalled it yet, but i have not played it since we tried it once or twice.
Did not get me going.........
I am more into OFP and ArmA though. there is nothing that can beat those games no matter what, when it comes to tactics and thrilling gameplay.
We must get back in the chair there Jarkks and James......

I am getting ready to go to work so I don't have time to write much of a review. Let me just say that CoD4 online is like Quake. Not much tactical possibilities as everyone is just thrown on top of each other and its kill or be killed. It is mass market fair meant for kiddies IMO. The clincher was playing on one server where at the end of each round the last two alive were snipers. And they were running around killing folk with their sniper rifles then inevitably hunting each other down without a bit of concern for the objectives.

I WAS PLAYING COUNTER STRIKE!!!!!!

Ins forces better tactical game play. And it just seems that the folks that play Ins like to play that way. The maps are bigger with better thought out spawns. It just feels better IMO.

Remember two things when comparing INS to the likes of OPF and ARMA. Ins is infantry only and has been since its inception.

Also Ins is only a BETA! It can only get better with each update. And it has.  :)

Infantry only is al fine m8.

And there is no way that you can compare OFP and ArmA to any other games.
They are warfare sims, and others are just Arcade in compareance.
But do not get me wrong i love them too.
It is just not the same.

Anyway. i guess i will download and try it out for myself and see what it is all about.

I have now tried to play Insurgency for about 20-30 minutes. game has crashed 5 times, once i got disconnected. It has pretty large loading times.. and crapload of bugs.. for example someone tk me so there popped a window giving option to forgive or punish the teamkiller..well.. there was no way to make it go away.. and when i got timed out from that server suddenly and join the next one.. it was still there! huge amount of bugs.. All this added to the fact that im not exactly a fan of the "US vs. towelheads" scenario and dont really like modern urban combat.. im very close to pressing uninstall button and be done with it.

EDIT:Yet more testing just gives more crashes, bugs and frustration.

played it for a hour the other day and it runs sweet for me. i find it very good, will be nice to team up on vent with it too.
only played 2 maps so far and they a very well made from what i can tell. keeper for me this one me thinks.
as for the two opponents i find it refreshing to be able to see whether or not that guy popping out from nowhere is friend or foe. leads to a lot less teamkills.  :salute:
gets a  thumbs up from me , cheers for the heads up Lav

hehe because the palette is so.. well.. realistic sorta i find it pretty hard to see if its enemy or friendly, when its in distance anyway.. im gonna try again.. the command menu is excellent and the concept is fine.. id just like to play a bit too instead of loading the game again and again and again.. it always crashed in the same spot.. when i was joining server and try to choose the "class" it crashes 50% of the time.. grrrr.. and then theres other bugs too.. i hope they can finish it well.. should be ok fun for a bit.. i doubt it has much longevity since nevertheless of the little additions like commanding etc. it still is pretty much a simple shooter with added realism.. im happy they have partly fixed the tacky controls since the last release i tried.. it could be a winner in the future.. maybe :)

EDIT:Ok now i got a longer session... im sorry boys.. im just bored with it.. cant help it.. :(

Your welcome. I'm glad you like it. It is a quality mod for sure. I have played a few.  :)  We will have to give it a go together sometime.

Damnit, damnit damnit.  I had a major brain fart at work.  When you said Insurgency I was thinking Project Reality.
lol

PROJECT REALITY is my favorite shooter for online play at the moment.

Yes i am going to try it, but that meens i will not be in a rush to download it atm.

And when it comes to FPS games, i have plenty to satisfy myself atm. I am sure you will see me play it sometime but just not right now.
