CALL OF DUTY modern warfare
« on: September 13, 2007, 12:39:44 pm »
This is for you who think that call of duty have had enough of WWII.
I am one of those even though i like the original series of WWII.

PS: Jarkko, i was right, it was Call of duty that went modern.

Anyway. take a look at this,, it is abit dark but still looks promising.
OOOOH about time that there is many new GOODLOOKING fps out there again.

Gotta add that the music do not match what you see but yet again some finnish guy gives sound. and you all though that finnish only gives out metal and such :)

oh... and one thing i have missed in other games.
Bullet penetrating walls wich the should if given high enough caliber.

Hey all..I help admin a group called the Holyland Clan which is based on WW2 first person shooters. We got our start back in 2002 with Medal of Honor Allied Assault and now run 4 server which include  Call of Duty United Offensive and Call of Duty 2. Our clan is very excited to move into Call of Duty 4 and we plan to have servers servers running different game types when it is available. If you enjoy first person shooters feel free to join in on our servers as we have admins (MP's) who watch the servers for cheaters, ingame swearing and fools. We have a very popular Tactical server for COD2 which was modded by Angel (who happened to sign up here the other day) and it has a great weapons mod and features team play over run and gun.

We have several active duty cops, army and ex military members who help us design the weapons mod to be more realistic and we plan on modding  Call of Duty 4 for a Tactical server as well as it looks well designed for that style. (We don't need 30 people running around with automatic weapons) But will probably have a Run and Gun server as well for people who like the "hamsters on crack" attitude of play.

By the way..the Holyland name came from the original founder of being a place where there is a Holy war against cheaters, idiots and fools that you normally find in servers. There is nothing religious about the clan.

Maybe I will see you on the battlefield as well as the track. :)

Would not be suprised there m8.

I would love to take a tactical shooter and actually get to be tactical about it.
Run n gun really aint my thing and so i could never get in to fear combat and so on.

I love Arma and games like that so then you should know what i am aiming for in the future online shooting.
COD4 looks lika abit more action based then ArmA though, but ireally look forward to checking it out.
I do enjoy a bit of BF series and have tried out Quake wars demo aswell and like it.
Keep in touch on the matter Jett and remind me.
Thanks.

I like WW2 shooters WAY more than modern ones, but since the first 2 Call of Duty games were so good (I never tried the console only 3rd one) I think I'll give CoD4 a chance.

I agree with ya about ww2, with the exception that i found Call of duty 2 (and 3) quite boring.. Too much similar shooters.. Tried to finish COD2 twice but got too bored and gave up.. Red Orchestra is still THE shooter for me. :) Had some good time again today with it.. its always fun!  :excited:

I agree, CoD1 was definitely better than CoD2.  CoD United Offensive is still one of my favourite shooters.  I also tried RO when it was free for a weekend.  I thought it was great.  I'd buy it if I wasn't so broke :(

Ok so now i am the happy boy who has tested the demo.
And my f*-ink goooood it is good.
I really love this. And the best part is that i can max out the game and still have good fps.
And it`s no lie to say that this game looks great.
I love the feeling you have here of being in war. lots of things happen at the same time and that will make you miss the grenade marker and booooom, your dead. You can get disorientated sometimes due to all the gunfire and that is a good feeling to have. when a game gives you things like that.
I might be into this game and so find it mor imersive than others, but this should really give some damn good multiplayer games. Coop might really be a blast here.
I will recommend this to all who likes FPS games. :excited: :excited:

Ok heres the thing thats the 1. immersion killer for me.

Is it still as heavily scripted as the earlier ones?
(bullets whistilng that never hit and are shot by no one/ AI doing perfectly same things, dying in the same spot/Billions of timed things like explosions, collapsing houses.. and many other "tricks" to make ya feel there but unfortunately in the end it causes the opposite for me)
I was bored to death with COD2, i simply have reached my limit on that type of fps.. The way the Medal Of Honor => COD2 "cheated" the feel of the great battle just wont work for me anymore.. Please god let it be less scripted!

Yes and no on the scripted part. I have played the demo now about 20 times trying different routes and have had different levels of success. Yes some things are some what scripted but the AI seems to change its tactics if you continue the same dumb ass moves. There are some same postions of AI in certain parts of the demo but the game seems to change the amount of AI and they seem to train on you faster the more predictable you are. However..this is a freaking demo and not a finished product. So maybe people should try it for what it is and not judge it on being the full game.

There is no pleasing you is there?

The people that shoot at you, you can shoot back.
You are driven by a story line, yes. but in multiplayer there must be something else than a story. it usually is.
I like this game now because of its looks, its gameplay, its fps friendly and simply because it is good action.
It is no sim like RO, but then again, nothing is, so there is no need comparing it there.(i knew you where gonna bring up RO at some point anyway :) )
How the singleplayer mode will follow up on the demo, only time will tell, but it is damn promising.

In the demo i did not feel that it was that scripted, even though it is, but i think not in a bad way.
You know what to do here. shoot n kill or die.

Well, the demo is out there m8s, there is nothing wrong with trying it, because you will not be dissapointed.

Hmm yeah i might try it.. There is pleasing me.. for example Portal is something ill definitely want to play, its something different and should be the "fps" for me. :)

Like ive said before i tried twice to finish COD2 but i just was too bored.. when you have played almost every fps ever made it kinda takes a lot to get me entertained nowadays.. well.. ill download the demo if i run out of things to play. :)

It might be worth a try for ya anyway m8. and well.... i will try the onlin eversion when the game is out to. that is my main ide for the game anyway.

I don't play FPS for the single player. Complete waste of time. I want to battle someone who can think on their own. That was why COD2 Tactical is so good. You need to be a very skilled shot and be able to use cover and teamwork to make it succeed. The weapons are rifles and not all machine guns for noobs. Being able to out think an opponent is what makes it fun. Single player has all the challenge of eating pizza while standing.

Challenge it can give, and can be fun.. I play online some fps games, but wont even bother to try all of em online.. I do so much other things online that i want some gaming experiences to be mine and nobody elses.. It would be interesting to challenge you some time though :)

This was so cool i almost shit my pants, damn!

The visuals are stunning.. It of course demands much from the pc, but even on low settings its amazing looking.. The feel of a battle is something great.. Its impossible to explain, but looks like they have made the COD series to a whole new level, if i get seriously interested, that means its really good.. I love the visuals.. maybe a tad too hectic at times for me, but damn... theres so many great details.. Animation is great.. Even when at times the fps drop low, it doesnt effect the gameplay too much.. (in fact makes no effect at all to your aiming, great job.. thats the way its should be done!)
At worst i might frop to 15 but then again max on 80.. simply depending how much stuff is going on.. If you are a friend of fps games i definitely can recommend to try, not very realistic.. but very immersive in a COD sorta way.. should be good fun when the full game is out. My only worry is that if the whole game is such chaotic battle i might get frustrated with it.. hopefully they know to put some proper breathing moments there so you can rest a bit.. i wouldnt mind some lone wolf action either.. VERY promising.

Yeah.. still bit (VERY) suspicious if its as hectic all the time.. and still is VERY scripted pipe running... but its a nice experience.. the same as it always was but sorta everything properly adds up finally.. playing the demo second time revealed the true COD nature.. no replay value really.. but it should be a nice experience, for one time.. if it wont bore me to death before finishing... only full game will tell. :)

This is a Call of Duty heavy weight. I hope the pace carries on hard fast and furious. I will be completing the single player. I will die many times.

I'll also look forward to the multi player maps. I have really enjoyed the past cod mp experience.

I was describing the action in the demo to my work crew and they became concerned at at the obvious enjoyment I showed concerning head shots while using the night vision.

RO... *hint hint*  :)

I'm still lovin the RO too..play every week at least two or three times, 8hint8 you dont have to force people to be tactical - there is no other way to play RO, unless of course you just want to die.

I've seen a few copies cheap at the future shop in Halifax...you may want to check and see if they have a $20 copy. If you can't scrape up $20 for this game/ww2 sim then you could easily fill a cup on the street corner, just put on some old grubby clothes and make a sign that says something pathetic to get peoples sympathy, I've seen people get through college like this, others make a good living at it.

Anyway, i'll get COD4, but the kids will get more use from it than me, give me RO...ok you got me going now, I'll be on the Wild Bunch Server tonight if anyone is around...7pm EST

"Please Don't Shoot Me" can you play some - its been awhile since you shot me ....he's a bloody good shot that predator!

I didn't notice any difference but I bumped my RAM to 2gig about the time it was updated so that prlly kept things smooth. I also got a wide monitor and bumped my resoluton to 1680*1050...didn't notice the hit in RO rFactor or GTL, some of the newer games are struggling though...my 6800 will have to go for a DX 10 part soon.

There are a couple of servers now with some nice custom content such as new uniforms, guns etc..very nice but sometimes too hard to tell the enemy.

Some great new urban maps too, large city blocks.

This thing really rocks when people play as a team...if not it can be frustrating as there is no hope of capturing zones if you are not in them...you know that one!

I tend to only play on a couple servers now..the wild bunch has a couple 50player srvers..that are always full so I tend to go there first.

I just read a 4 page debate on the Insurgency forums (HL2 mod based in Iraq). It was furious between the fanboys of each game. I guess in multiplayer there is a hardcore mod or setting for COD4 that up's the realism. With that said I will be getting it!!! The earlier COD's were to arcadish for my taste's.

I am with Jarkko though. It will take some effort to beat Red Orchestra...IMO. RO is quite the SIM. And Sim is the operative word here.
